Do I still have a chance?

Hey guys,

I’m a student at penn state.
First thing about me that hinders my plan to transfer is the withdrawal of two consecutive semesters. My first two semesters in college weren’t that great so I had to process withdrawal at the end of each semester. (had personal reasons) After the withdrawal, I have two more semesters done and my GPA is pretty decent (around 3.9) even with some major-prep courses.

Now I am seriously considering to transfer to UC schools (preferably Berkeley or LA) and other schools with great reputation for Business. I’ve been researching the requirements for transfer applicants for different schools and I’ve found out that most schools that I want to apply as a transfer student require HS transcripts and SAT/ACT. I have obtained a score of 35 in the ACTs but my HS gpa was around 3.3.

My questions are:

  1. Would the college admission officers be happy about my current gpa even with the withdrawal of the first two semesters? (Do I still have a chance?)
  2. Is it better for me to give up and try my best to finish strong at my current institution?
  3. Do HS transcripts play a big role even if I’m wishing to transfer into junior year?

Please help!

If you have two years of college, your ACT and HS record will not be relevant, just your college record. With a single year worth of credits, it will depend on the university. Are you trying to transfer now? It is very late for Fall 2015.

Thanks for your comment @xraymancs and No, I’m currently under leave of absence for military service. hmm but then I wonder why top-tier schools want to take a look at your HS transcript…

@jamesstyson I don’t think the UC’s even ask for your high school transcript until after you’ve been admitted. I’m not 100% sure why they ask for them, but it may be to see if you took foreign language courses in high school. I think a lot of universities will only make you take a language if you haven’t already taken the required amount in high school.

Disclaimer: I pulled that out of my ass, so it very well may not be the case.

Most UCs ask for high school transcripts after admission. But sometimes they will say they don’t need them. It won’t affect admission.
