So, I'll be applying to Cal next year from Santa Monica College. This is my second semester there and I currently have a 3.8 GPA, lower division major req's done (assist.org), and IGETC looking great. I'm an active member of Phi Thetta Kappa and Alpha Gamma Sigma honor societies, and I've done some internships at LACMA (I'm a History major).

I did reallllly bad in high school, with my final GPA around 2.0, so I'm wondering how negatively that will affect my chances at admission to Cal. If anyone knows more about the Cal Transfer admissions process, I'd be thankful to hear some input. Thanks :)

There’s an entire forum for UC transfers. In short: Since you can only transfer in as a Jr your HS record won’t really matter, community college transfers get priority, then UC transfers, the. Private transfers–in that order.

Look at the UC transfer thread. Loads of info

most of my friends who were admitted to UC berkeley earned their GED’s and never even went to high school. so i do not think it will matter. i did not fail my high school classes, but i never attended high school at all because i was living on an island in greece with no schools. i earned a GED easily and have been accepted to UC Berkeley. good luck and keep up the grades. be sure to finish math and english GE requirements early so that they do not show “IP” In Progress when they are reviewing your application. that seems to help.

They don’t give a damn about your hs grades. some UCs request to see your hs transcripts while some don’t. Cal just wants to know if you graduated from HS or gotten your GED.

Not to worry. High school grades are not taken into consideration for junior transfers. Only applicants attempting to transfer after their first year into their sophomore year must submit their high school grades for admissions consideration. The only time your high school transcript will be required is when you are using the 2 years of a foreign language for your foreign language requirement in the IGETC. That and just to confirm that you graduated high school.
