My freshman year, I got a 3.58/4.6, which converts to a 3.11/4.0.

Sophomore year, I got a 3.98/4.6, which converts to a 3.45/4.0.

This year, so far I am getting a 4.5/4.6, which converts to a 3.91/4.0.

Obviously, junior year has just started, but I feel like I am understand everything so much better. I feel like junior year I will do SO well, but am disappointed because freshman year was so bad in my opinion.

What I am wondering is: as far as academics, will I be have a chance to get into a top Computer Science college?

You still have a chance to get into a good college. It’s good that you have an upward trend in grades since that creates a favorable impression of you in the eyes of admissions officers. Colleges know that freshmen year is a transition year so it will not be weighed as heavily as junior year.

Assuming Carnegie Mellon doesn’t look at freshman GPA, your avg then would be 3.68, which is over CMU’s average GPA. Granted that’s for all majors like liberal arts and the other sciences, but you probably won’t be at a disadvantage. Get your SAT scores up and you’ll definitely be very competitive at CMU!

I’m a mirror image of you as far as freshmen year goes, and I hope to attend Cornell or Stanford. I would recommend taking some summer classes/Community College courses to raise your GPA. I Took math/spanish last summer, this year I’m taking 8 classes (3 of which relate to computer science) and then over the summer I’m going to take 6 classes, in hopes to raise my GPA.

I defiantly think you still have a chance, just takes a lot of effort!
