Do internationals also get likelies???

I am really curious.
Do internationals also get likelies??
especially those living outside US????

Sometimes, yes.

Its rare actually. But some do...

i got one from rice

It's unlikely unless you have some talent which is extremely rare (even amongst domestic students).

Rare but possible...Amusing story actually...
Friend of mine who got in Chicago, actually got a likely letter 2 weeks afte the decision letter EA...Mail mix up...

^ Are you talking about Aashirwad?

Very rare. Never seen one from my school actually.

I got one from UVa.

No not aashir...another guy I know...I think 2 years back or something...

20LEGEND

What were your stats?

hmm, actually some do receive likely letters, but it's interesting to point out that a lot of these letters are not initially intended as likelies...lol

schools like Rice, Notre Dame, Cornell, U Chicago, UVa send out likelies to internationals. Dunno about others but these ones definately do so this year and have done this in the past two years...not sure if they send likelies every year, though. (I have friends who have received likelies from these schools)

But the fact is not every admitted student receive a likely letter, actually most of the accepted students won't, so don't panic if you know someone receive a likely while you haven't anyway. =)

Noticed that the schools I mentioned above are mostly schools that do not, or offer international students very limited financial aid? So some of the "likely letters" go like this:
Dear XXX, I have reviewed your application and am very impressed with your academic achievements and look forward to having you on campus this fall. However, I also noticed that you have applied for financial aid. Since our school does not have the money to fully meet your need, is it possible that you offer more Family Contribution? Once we receive your update on finanical information, we will re-evaluate your application so that we are able to issue an official letter of acceptance and the I-20 Form.

See? Quite a few of my friends have received such letters asking for more family support. Once your family contribution goes up to meet their requirement, you are accepted.

Do top schools also send likelies to int'ls need FinAid?

Rice, Notre Dame, Cornell, UChicago and UVA aren't top schools according to you!?!?

^I never said they aren't top unis. I asked if they also sent likelies to int'ls who ASK FOR FINAID. Asking for FinAid is a HUGE factor for int'ls

oh yes, but relatively fewer of course. I know someone who has received a likely letter from Barnard, and she needs almost full aid. The thing is, if you play varsity, it's much more likely that you receive a likely letter from a coach or an admissions officer in order to hook you up (because they really really need you); but if you are just a "normal" applicant with outstanding academic achievements, I think most of the schools just simply don't bother unless you are so outstanding that they are giving you one of the few full ride scholarships to attract you to their school.

But usually these students don't end up in a certain school because of the scholarship...they have way better places to go and still receive full aid...One of my friends got a likely letter from Furman U with a full scholarship, which they offer to only one international student each year, but he later went to Yale with full aid.

I got a likely from Brown yesterday. From Canada asking for aid.

^I think Canadians and Mexicans are treated differently for FinAid in some schools, not sure about Brown. Anyways, congrats! I'd be shaky with a likely from Brown :(
