Should parents attend the Spring Welcome Days for accepted students at Northeastern University? Does anyone know if parents attended the Early Action Welcome Days? If parents can, should they? Any feedback would be great considering that I probably will be attending.

My parents attended EA Welcome Day last year. I liked having them there, because my mom was able to attend the Fin Aid session while my dad and I went to the International Opportunities session (the one that made me choose NU!). It’s good to have more people there to go to more sessions, and it’s probs important for parents to become more familiar with the school that their child could be spending the next x amount of years at.

There are tons of parents there, so they definitely don’t stick out or anything!

At my EA Welcome Day, the chemistry department actually split up the students and the parents for a good hour or so, so that we (the prospective students) could ask the student reps questions we can’t ask in front of our parents while the parents stayed with the department chair to talk about financial aid and logistical stuff like that.

It’s also good to have parents there so they can see how the school is, and possibly brag about the school to their friends. So when it comes time for May 1st, to roll around, you’ll have some input from your parents to help you decide-- with not just information about how parties are and where the good food is at, but how much you’re getting out of the school with your 5 years here plus co-op.

And like blinkangel said, everybody else’s parents are there as well. Don’t be embarrassed that they’re there with you. ;)

Hope that helps!

We (both parents) also attended Early Action Welcome Day with our daughter. It seemed most students were accompanied by at least one parent, so you would not feel out of place.

My Mom went today and it was great for both of us.
