do scholarships stack?

If you qualify, is it possible to get two scholarships?

In particular, I am interested in the national merit scholarship and the IB scholarship.

It does not appear that they stack. My S was first awarded the Beadle Scholarship (though not for IB) last year and then it was replaced with the Chancellor’s Scholarship.

UNL has an out-of-state scholarship estimator at

When you check the boxes for both NMF and IB you get the same estimated amount as NMF (Chancellors Scholarship) alone.

@STEMFamily

Yes, they finally responded to my e-mail and told me we couldn’t get both IB and NM. Now I’m curious about the Raikes room and board scholarship for students interested in CS/Engineering combined with business, I didn’t ask about that one. Do you know anything about that one?

The Raikes School website says: “Students admitted to the Raikes School may receive up to a 4-year renewable room and board scholarship applied only to the cost of room and board in the Kauffman Center.” Keep in mind that “may” does not mean “shall” - the room & board scholarship varies from student to student. (My OOS son, NMSF, did get full room & board.)

@goodncolo

Any idea what of the selection criteria are? and what the vibe is like there? Is it mostly techy boys?

I think the criteria are described on the website, but in general if you have a 32+ on the ACT, are NMSF, and have some leadership experience (my son was president of his high school’s FIRST Robotics team for example) then you’d have an excellent chance of getting in. I’m not sure how they decide scholarship awards. Yes the majority are techy boys or students who have implemented a business idea (not necessarily technical), and they are trying hard to increase the number of females. Do a google search on ‘raikes incoming class’ and you can peruse the announcements for previously admitted cohorts.

Found it,

D will probably have the scores and nmsf, but lacks the programming experience (school doesn’t offer it), also not sure I could force her to live with a bunch of geeky boys even for free. Still good to know it is possible to get full ride at UNL. Thanks for the info.
