I was wondering if classes taken in the summer and sophomore year count towards your cumulative GPA.

You mean do they count towards your GPA that college admissions will judge you on? If you plan to transfer in Fall 2011 then the summer classes you take in 2010 will be factored into your GPA for admission. I am not sure though if they also factor in the classes you would take in Fall 2010 but it seems likely that they would since you don’t get your acceptances until about April/May. For Spring 2011 if you keep your GPA at 3.0(lower for some UC’s I believe) or above then your gold.

i asked this question a few weeks ago and the consensus seems to be that fall grades are calculated, and used when they are making decisions, and like coolaid317 said after that you just need to keep your gpa at a 3.0 and you should be good, but i would recommend still trying as hard as you can!

I am a fall 2010 transfer. They will factor in ALL transferable grades up til (I mean, INCLUDING) Fall 2010 for you Fall 2011 transfers. FYI.

Everything posted above is accurate. UC systems WILL include all your records through fall and WILL NOT include your winter and/or spring grades when making their admission decisions. That said, you winter and spring grades will abviously “count” as they will always be on your official college record

Post-Fall grades:

For Winter & Spring quarters/or Spring Semester if on semester system, you’ll need to maintain a similar GPA (I know, vague right?) to what you have had for UCLA–in other words, it can’t be a significant drop. For Berkeley, alls you need is a 3.0. To my knowledge (I’m not sure at all), all other UC’s require a 3.0 for the last quarters/semester as well.

But don’t worry about this stuff yet!! Pay attention on what’s going on right now.
