I just got a letter from undergraduate admissions office regarding the College Board Student Search Service that was apparently apart of the registration for the SAT. I took for the very first time in May and scored a 1320. I plan to retake it this fall (senior year). I don’t really recall doing this part of the registration or if I even listed Clemson (though it is my #1 and would have been listed if that’s the case) or if Clemson just sends this to everyone in a certain area with scores about a certain point. I am curious as to how many students are sent this letter as I have never heard of it. It says they are impressed with my academic achievements and gives me details as to when the 2017 application will be available.
Is this anything remotely impressive or is it a run of the mill way to pull in applicants with average/high scores?
Did the letter say it was a "provisional acceptance " letter? My son received one last year, and they only send out several
hundred per year according to an admissions representative at Clemson. It should tell you to complete your application in August. Unless your stats change , you’ve been basically accepted once you apply.
I also received a similar letter, separate from a provisional acceptance a couple of weeks ago (regarding the May SAT scores I used the free send for).
I believe, if you read carefully, that it might be a fee waiver? Did they give you a specific code alongside application instructions? As Carolina mom pointed out, it might be a provisional acceptance in response to your June scores.
EDIT: Looks like you took the May SAT, so it might be aforementioned fee waiver.
You automatically are directed to fill out the CB SS with basic stats before registering (I.e. classes taken), so I’m assuming you just used the free send and they were impressed. I do believe it is a merely stat-based automatic send, but still feel accomplished at a great score!
My D also got that and got invited to a special open house in spring of junior year - I guess based on her Jan SAT.
To all: From the looks of it, it is likely that this letter is to pull in the more average scores. The rundown of it is that they are impressed with my academic achievements and want me to consider Clemson as they find that “taking into consideration my personal and academic achievements” that it would be an ideal setting. It is not offering anything specific as suggested such as a fee waiver, provisional acceptance, or any special invitations, but I will be applying in the fall. Thank you all for your help
@wishfulcu Apply as close to Aug 1as possible . Clemson determines housing priority based on application date , not acceptance date. It’s an easy application and only takes about 30 minutes to complete.
@carolinamom2boys I want to apply for either genetics or biochemistry, but I know I won’t get in if I send both my ACT (26) and SAT. The closest date to take the ACT is September 10, so should I try it one more time and score well or would I be better off applying to to a major that isn’t going to be as picky about my scores?
I feel as if I should send both my SAT and ACT (if I retake it) because my extracurriculars are pretty weak.
Clemson doesn’t look at ECs really. Decisions are based on GPA, rank, test scores and rigor. You can always send updated test scores until Dec . Notification occurs in Feb with some earlier notifications for high stats kids. They’re only going to consider your highest test scores. Look up the Common Data Set for Clemson and it will show you the stats of accepted students last year and you can compare.
Can I send in my application in August and take the ACT in September and have it sent to Clemson? I was in the top 10% as of the end of junior year, but my GPA UW is 3.7 versus W 4.26. I think I would have a much better chance if I were to retake the ACT and score well rather than if I were to apply early with just my SAT.
They will accept scores up until Dec . What was your SAT score? Are you trying for Calhoun Honors?
I scored 1320 on the SAT in May. From what I’m understanding, it is possible to send in my application before I take/send in the new ACT score and they will still consider the new score?
Thanks for your help by the way.

Your current stats make you eligible for merit scholarships . You’d most likely be admitted with your current stats . If you’re interested in Calhoun Honors , you may want to beef up your ECs , but your stats make you eligible to apply there as well. My son did apply last year on Aug 1 and sent updated test scores in Oct or Nov.
Good luck to you .
I will surely look into the merit scholarships. As of now, I’m going to get in my application as soon as possible and take the ACT in September then send those scores.
Thank you so much for your help!
You’re welcome. Good luck
