Do UC's allow you to take a summer class before transfer to meet transfer prerequisites?

I’m going to be applying this fall in order to get into Fall 2020 at many UC’s. However, I will be short 1 prerequisite course for my major at the end of spring (Differential Equations).

The schools that I’m applying to are UCD, UCI, UCLA, UCB, and UCSD. I have a 3.91 GPA.

Will taking this last prerequisite course in the summer before transfer affect my admission chance?

Thanks

Can you take Differtnial equations Fall 2019 or Spring 2020?

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: it depends. Sometimes different UCs are more lenient about prerequisites but it really depends on the major/UC. They usually care more about prereqs for STEM majors (and I’m assuming you’re one since you’re planning on taking DE).
In general, having all prerequisites completed means more than having a strong GPA (but the UCs usually want both). I’ve known 4.0 students who were rejected for missing one prereq. I’ve also heard about students missing one or more and still getting accepted (only for non-STEM majors though).

@NASA2014 Unfortunately not because I have to take Calc 3 in Fall and Discrete Mathematics in Spring

I don’t see why you can’t double up on any 3 of those math classes. After Calc 2, pretty much all math classes after that theoretically can be taken in any order. Is it too late to take Calc 3 this summer? Classes at most CCC started either last week or this week.

A lot of people take Calculus 3 and Differential equations at the same time.

Fall: Calculus 3 and differential equations
or
Spring: Discrete Math and differential equations

@NASA2014 That sounds like a good plan. Will I be overwhelmed having two advanced math classes? I’ve never done that before.

Taking DE together with Calc 3 is probably ok. Calc 3 isn’t really too bad (assuming you did well in Calc 1 and 2) until the very end when MV integration starts. Usually you would do LA and DE together, but this combo is fine as well.
