Do upper division history generally have prereqs?

Ok, this is a stupid question. I'm an intended LS CS major but I also enjoy history as a side passion and there seems to be some interesting upper div history classes, that I won't take this semester but might consider as early as next semester. Do most of these classes have prerequisites, as history doesn't seem to build on top of each other as definitely as math and science classes do, or can I just sign up for most of them if I feel I can handle the upper div workload? Or do I generally need a lower div history course in that subject area first to qualify for that particular upper div course?

Generally, there are some upper div’s without pre-req’s. You can go look at the listed schedule of classes, which shows the pre-req requirements for each class. I’m assuming you’re entering your 1st year? If that’s true I don’t know that you’ll want to do an upper div, but you can always try it for a couple weeks and then drop. My 1st semester at Cal, I signed up for an upper div philosophy class and dropped after the first day!

Upper division history courses generally do not list prerequisites in the catalog, the schedule does not list restrictions on enrolling into the courses, and the department web site does not mention prerequisites. Seems like if there were prerequisites, there would be mention of such in one of those places.
