-Like they do at UIUC, or is it done like UW-mad or Purdue, where you apply to the university, THEN at some time later, you apply for / declare into the college of engineering?

If it is like UIUC, can someone show me the profile of the stats of the last freshman class of each college?

I found this profile of the university as a whole...

If at UIUC, they ask you to apply to the College of Engineering when you send in your application, then yes. If I recall correctly, the 50th percentile of admitted engineering students is a 31 ACT and 3.9 UW GPA. Although these may seem high, the acceptance rate was around 50-60%, so if you’re qualified, you have a good shot at getting in, or so I would assume.

You should check this for yourself, but I believe that at Purdue, you apply to the engineering school as an entering freshman, and apply for/declare a specific engineering major at a later date; while at Illinois, you apply directly to a particular engineering major as an incoming freshman.

I’ll check out how they do iot at those two others colleges. FOR UM, do you apply to the college of engineering as an incoming fresjhman? if so, what is the academic profile of the last incoming freshman class at UM ?

tues, when did you (or are you) transferring? after 05, 1, 1.5, 2 yrs?

also, what ENG major did you go into?

Was the transfer from LSA (is that liberal arts and sciences?) as easy and simple as filling out a form, which was then ‘rubber stamped’ or was it more like an application ala the application that one does at freshman time - ie, limited number slots are filled with an overabundance of other qualified candiates and therefore some kind of vetting and cutting procedure actually takes place, and some qualified students from LSA who seek to get into CoE are left out?

I am applying UM EA. Is it ok to send my application in today, followed by my essays the end of the week, followed by my recent ACT (which I was not lucky enough to get my scores back today) and teacher rec"s? Or should I wait and mail everything in together?

@roderick. I’m aiming to transfer after freshman year. I am considering either mech or aero engineering. But I don’t have your answer for the logistics involving transfer. But I did meet somebody that did the same thing I did, transfer from LSA to CoE soph year. He said it was hell but because he had to call so many people, so he said. So that’s the best I can say.

It’s much easier to transfer from CoE to LSA than the other way around, so if you’re undecided between the two, it’s smarter to apply to CoE from the get go.

The problem is not our indecision between LSA and coE; the problem would be the decision by the UM coE admssions (possibly not accepting the app to coE at freshman time).

In fact, what are the possible outcomes of a frosh app to coE?

I called UMich about this and they said you could be denied to college of engineering, then re-apply to LSA during rolling admissions I believe. Or, you could just be accepted to college of engineering. :)
