Do you get jealous when your friends score higher than you on a test or on any assignment? I know the typical response, but I'm curious to know if I came to the right place. I tend to be jealous to a certain extent.

Not really..

I'm never necessarily jealous in the rare occasion that my friends ever score higher than me at anything BUT I do become super competitive in those occasions.

We're all humans, jealousy is definitely a common reaction to being bested at anything.

No, not really. It just makes me want to try harder.

Nope. I just convince myself they must've worked harder.

It pushes me harder.

I only get jealous if they beat me without studying at all, when I studied for 5 hours.

edit double post

I used to be incredibly jealous about test grades and blah blah blah, but I got over it. We've all got our own talents, and just because someone beat the curve on that derivatives test and I needed that curve doesn't mean they're better than I. Seriously. Though there is a tiny mechanism that still clicks and says "Study harder next time!" when that happens, but that's probably for my own good.

And it's so satisfying when people run around comparing grades and you just say "I got a grade, chill."

No, becuase I know deep down that they must have cheated.

That was sarcasm.

well, this kid who never studies and plays WOW all day
got a 240 on his psat. he's a genius though, his IQ was measured at 160 something in 4th grade.

i got a 222, which is pretty good, but i actually study and crap like that...i felt really angry and jealous.

I get jealous sometimes

My buddies and I basically make up the top ten percent of our class, so we all beat each other at something at some point so I'm rarely jealous.

No. Area of my friends do well but usually abut worse than I, so I'm happy when they do better. The other ones perform about as well as I do, and if I ever get a little jocosely jealous I can tease them for being behind me in math.

Mmmm...
Not so much jealous as more competitive.

Although my friends and I don't typically share our grades with eachother, it's nice once in a while just to know where I stand among my classmates. If a friend of mine scores higher on one thing, I know I probably have scored higher than them on atleast one or two things, so it's just helpful more than anything. It also makes me work harder.

wow seclude60, you are quite the crazy competitor

Only in one class (AP Chem), because even when I know the material, I somehow get everything wrong... lol. And the one person who consistently scores higher than I do on the tests DOES study harder and what not, but I'm still like "WUT why didn't I know that?!"

Usually I don't know what grades my friends get and vice versa, but whenever we happen to know, I am definitely way more happy for them than jealous. Like lainay said, some of us are better at some things, some of us are better at others. =) I'm very glad to have intelligent friends and classmates.

Heck yes... but it really depends on the person.

i'm not gonna sugar-coat: yes. but it makes me want to try to beat them and gives me motivation. i rarely talk about grades and school with my close friends, although one of them is a "top" person as well. however i'm getting very jealous/competitive with this one girl in most of my classes who is continuously getting higher than me by one point or by one percent in almost EVERY assignment, test, and overall grade. =_=

wow, i just wrote a paragraph
