Do you guys actually take elective classes?

Pretty self explanatory. I'm always seeing people post their schedules and I see no typical elective classes that people use to pursue interests. Does every just take another academic class instead (i.e. doubling up in science or taking another AP)?

At my school everyone is required to take one semester of Art/Music electives and one semester of Business/Technology electives. Most people take these in 9th and 10th grade so they can take other classes in 11th and 12th grade.

I’ve gotten a recommendation to join yearbook when I’m a junior. Does that count?

After transferring to a boarding school, I realized that I was tired of jumping through hoops specifically for school admission. So, during this year (sophomore), I have taken 2 theatre electives, one of which is pretty selective. I’m also dropping math senior year in order to take psychology and English electives.

If a college will hate me for pursuing my real interests, and wanting to have fun in high school, well I guess that’s not the school for me.

^^^ it’s like asking us if we ever sleep? -____- we’re not robot, you know? We like to have fun too.

At my high school, we all had to take a year of vocational education (ag, business math, yearbook, ceramics), but ingot the requirement waived because I was in an unusual situation. Anyways, they considered anything beyond the graduation requirements to be an elective, even if it was an academic class. So any Spanish was an elective, or third year of math or science, or social science. My school offered hardly any true electives.

My school requires 2 semesters of electives. I finished them in freshman year.

Just because some people double up on science rather than taking an arts or music course, doesn’t mean they’re only taking it for college. e.g. Science and math are my passions, and I would gladly have taken nothing but math and science courses for all four years if that were possible.

In my school, it’s a grad requirement to take 4 full semesters of art/music and 4 semesters in physical ed/sport. My high school is like the worst of the worse.

I’m taking chorus all 4 years, took art freshman year, couldn’t take another elective this year because I took chemistry as my 2nd elective, taking creative writing next year, and I don’t know what I’m doing senior year.

I’ve taken chorus x2, P.E. x2, public speaking, psychology, driver’s ed, personal finance. Next year I’ll be taking sociology and internet history. Do languages count as electives? I’ve taken 3 years of Spanish.

My high school requires 2 credits of practical/creative arts, so over the course of my 9th and 10th grade years I took ceramics, foods & nutrition, drawing & painting, and child development.

Junior and senior years, though, I unfortunately didn’t have any room in my schedule for any electives besides gym, which is a required 4 year course for us.
