What electives do you take?!

So I am impressed with the amount of AP's that CC members take. Im very curious as to how this is possible and do you guys even take electives? I RARELY see any traditional electives such as art, gym, and other related classes.

I personally took a lot of electives. I went to a Fine Arts school that you attend for 2 periods (out of 7, for me) a day all four years leaving me with 5, 4, 5, and 5 classes at normal school each year respectively. I also took Newspaper since Sophomore year which left me with 5, 3, 4, 4 academic classes. I took 6 APs (Although one was Music Theory at the Fine Arts school) and the rest were honors. Basically you just take every academic class as honors/AP and keep doing electives like normal. Some people here are abnormal and take a ton of academics and nothing fun, (My friend took all APs two years in a row… he had no life haha) but I think your electives and after school activities are what show you’re different.

Theatre and ceramics

I go to a small school so the number of AP classes is small. Ill probably end up only taking 5 total, provided that I want to take AP Spanish online.
Curious. What format is your school schedule?..4x4 block schedule, Same classes all year (A/B day), etc

This really vary from school to school. My D’s school provides ~15AP classes, but it is really impossible to take most of them due to the class schedule limitation. Particularly, it has only 7 hours and it may be further decreased to 6 hours next year due to budget issue. In addition, AP chemistry takes 2 hours because of the lab. Moreover, music is a big thing in this school that take one hour out. Many students need to take electives online or during the summer. We really envy those schools that have 8 hours (and now even those with 7 hours). Most of the AP classes are core subjects, so it should not affect your electives until you have exceeded the core requirements. There are many AP classes that are only 1 semester long.

Freshmen year: Marching Band/Concert Band, Spanish I, Communication/Computer Apps, and Gym.
Sophomore year: Spanish II, Marching Band/Concert Band, Web Page Design, Current Social Issues/Psychology.
Junior year: Marching Band/Symphonic Band, AP Psychology, Spanish III, Principles of Engineering.
Senior year: Accounting, Biotech Engineering, Teacher’s Aide, Spanish IV.

My school has 8 classes per day, so I have 4 elective slots per year.
I still have a lot of time for AP classes, too. Junior year I took AP Calculus and AP Language (in addition to AP Psychology already listed). Senior year I am taking AP Physics B, AP Literature, AP Statistics, and AP Government. I will be self-studying Calc BC and either AP Economics or AP Physics C as well since my school doesn’t offer them.
My school doesn’t allow sophomores to take AP but I did have plenty of pre-AP classes.
My school doesn’t have a ton of AP classes really… AP Lit, Lang, Psych, US History, US Government, Physics B, Chem, Bio, Calc AB, Stats, Studio Art, Music Theory. So that might be why I have more electives than most students on here.

I go to a magnet school for the arts where I major in visual arts. We have a longer school day but it allows me to take a full AP/honors schedule and lots of electives.

I take Chinese (level 5 and AP) and fine art (Studio Art, AP drawing, 2D, 3D, and ceramics)

Wow impressive!!
My schools graduating requirements require a ridiculous amount of electives imo. Essentially you’ll end up with 3 different gym classes, 1 or 2 art classes, 1 or 2 CTE classes, 1 computer classes, and at least 2 foreign language classes. Coming from an athlete, I think 3 gym classes are ridiculous! I could easily put another class that adds more rigor or something that at least interest me to my schedule.
Im really worried that my class load will end up hurting me come admissions time. Our school is too small for honors classes, so the only advanced classes are APs. I have a 4.0 (uw) but still!

9th: Novels for Young Readers, Physical Education I, Music Appreciation, History of Economics, Speech I, Word Processing

10th: Physical Education II, Computer Applications I

11th: none
12th: none

9th: I took a leadership class ( complete waste of an elective, basically was AP coloring)
10th: principles of business
11th: business management and fashion marketing 2
12th: design input and sports marketing

I go to a large public high school and there are so many electives to chose from! I wish I could take 5.

9th: Principles of Business, Spanish II, Health Team Relations, Gym/Health
moved
10th: Gym twice, Spanish III, Int’l Business & Management, and Minorities I
