Hello. I am really scared for college. I am a 10th grader and school ends in a month. In NY we take regents which is basically a final. So i been studying for that and plan getting at least a 85 + for all my regents(hopefully higher)

During 9th grade i kinda slacked and didnt care much, My final avg was a 78. But i am doing much better this year(10th grade) My first quarter grade was a 86, 2nd - 83, 3rd - 88. I believe my 4th quarter grade will be a 90 +. So if it all works out i will have a 85-92 final avg for 10th grade.

For 11th grade i plan on getting at least a 90 + above for every quarter, i plan on working 2x more and plan on doing clubs and sports. I also will study for My SATS starting this summer and take them next year.

I want to go to college. The colleges i plan on applying are
-New York Instit of Tech - Manhattan
-Utica Coll
-York Univ
-Syracuse Univ
-And maybe more but i am not sure right now.

So Do you guys think ill be able to make any of those colleges? Please help!

I’m a fellow New Yorker and if you’re familiar with the SUNY System, then those grades can get you into a fair amount of the lower-tier ones in the system, so you should have no problem getting into any college. What do you want to major in? I can get you a few SUNYs that have decent programs at good prices.

But in addition to GPA, ECs and the testing scores are also important. If you do really well (2000+) for those schools, it can at times override your GPA and impressive, specialized ECs that don’t look like you just padded your resume also look pretty strong. But the upwards trend too will look really well. So don’t worry about not getting into college! Just strengthen your GPA to get a decent overall GPA, join clubs and study for the standardized testing.

Hey thanks for the quick response! I want to major in computer programming. And what are ECs? And also thanks for your time! :)

No problem! I wish I got all this lovely advice when I was younger so I might as well do my best to help others! ECs = extracurriculars.

Try to do more than the typical honor society or whatever! See what’s offered at your school in the STEM-ish fields or anything computer like. Getting a job or internship somewhere looks really impressive and continue to work from that. I don’t know much about programming but getting certifications in program language (Python I think one is?) is sort of good I think. Just anything like clubs, sports, volunteer hours, etc.

Ok. Gonna try my best to do all what you told me. Thanks!
