I'm a junior this year, but I was wondering if colleges check to make sure that your extracurriculars are legit and that you didn't just make it up to look good on your resume. I mean, out of the thousands of applications that they deal with a day, is it really possible that they'd check for proof for every single extracurricular activity of each student? I'm sure they'd give the benefit of the doubt right?

I am saying this because I was new to my high school this year, and in my previous high school I was involved in 2 clubs, however I don't have a paper or anything that proves that they are legit. Does this mean I'd have to go back to my old school and request some sort of certificate or paper or whatever that proves it? If so, I'm screwed since one of the teachers recently retired. ;/

They might do random spot checks. Even so, don't worry cuz they're not going to call you up, just call your school and follow leads. Just make it clear it was from your previous school.

Usually the types that are big enough to warrant checking happen to be very big awards, like being the state or national champion in a sport, that are kind of hard to forge anyway.

just being involved in a club isn't very impressive, unless you're really passionate about it. if you're passionate about it, you can always demonstrate it in your short answer/essay.

are admissions officers going to call you about the achievements, talents, and school awards I provide on the resume? i didn’t win any state or national championship awards.
