Do you think contracted colleges bring down Cornell both in name and in admissions numbers? WOuld Cornell be better off without them? Why does Cornell even contract out colleges, I'm sure the school has lots of money.....

considering the contract colleges are the very best in every field they cover ... NO!!

Elitist snobs and their opinions bring Cornell "down". If it wasn't for somebody saying things like "UPenn >>>>>>>> Cornell" or "ILR isn't really ivy league", you wouldn't second guess it.

they have contract colleges as part of their land grant mission with New York State.

Read Cornell's mission

Cornell would not be Cornell without the contracted colleges, it's one of the many reasons why this place is so amazing.

This post doesn't even deserve a response.

Rather than disparaging it for offering top quality education to more than just prep school rich kids, why not celebrate it for being both a premier global university and egalitarian?

The huge array of different people one meets and opportunities one has at Cornell's vastly diverse programs makes its contract colleges well worth it.

Any person, any study -- go back and look at the founders' ideals and plans for the new university that would be built on Ezra's farm high above Cayuga's waters.

Cornell is an amazing place filled with amazing students doing amazing things.

Rather than bring it down ... I think the contract colleges elevate Cornell high above those ivy-crusted places that were founded as liberal arts colleges.

Contract colleges is what makes Cornell unique and better (in my opinion) than the other Ivy League schools.

at what other ivy can you take classes in ice cream making and wine science? it's just not liberal artsy enough... but oh so fun.

Of course they do. Ice cream? Ben and Jerry's got that. Wine? The French. Hotel? Only if you wed Paris. ILR? Ha, make it a requirement to speak Chinese or Hindi cause that's where its going.

Doey.
