Not really, or an almost guarnteed spot?
Thanks

SSTP is...?

Um.. here's the website. I read pretty much everything and it sounds great, but competitive, and since it requires an application much like a college one if I got into the program at UF, why not get into the school?

http://www.cpet.ufl.edu/sstp/default.html

I am very familiar with SSTP. I have about 5 or 6 friends that went and I was going to go also but I decided I didnt want to blow my summer and I was confident with my sat/gpa that i would get into UF no problem (i did).
In short, SSTP will help you a lot. SSTP though is no miracle worker. It used to be an automatic acceptance but this year a friend of mine who went to SSTP got rejected (appealed, and rejected too). He had a 3.6 w and a 1170, so the rejection is understandable. My other friends who attended all got in though, but they had pretty decent stats.
SSTP can definitley increase your chances but IMO you still need atleast a 3.8w and a 1200.

That picture they have up is a symbol of diversity, eh?

Thanks. Notoriousmt, do you mean 3.8w&1200 for SSTP or for UF admission? I really want to go to UF, but I wish I knew what the gpa norm is to get into UF bc I'm thinking it's a reach for me, which means it would probably be a reach to even get into SSTP. I'm taking the hardest classes available but not doing too well in them but there's still time for me to raise my gpa.

lol I have nothing against nerds and geeks since I'm sort of one myself, but wow - that picture perpetuates every stereotype of Asians and nerds that's ever been conceived.

Hahahhh nice

I was talking about UF admission. I dont think SSTP is all THAT difficult to get into. You also have the option of going either the summer before your junior or senior year. If you really want to go to UF but you dont think your stats are going to be good enough, by all means go to SSTP. All I'm saying is that you dont have guaranteed admission at all, but it definitley helps though.

Wow, I can't believe that, but okay! I was thinking 3.8 uw would be more realistic but idk. It would be a bummer for me to 'waste' $3000 and not even get into UF though, but of course that wouldn't be the only reason to go at all because of the credit and the dorms and the experience and the fun :) thanks

The good thing about SSTP is that you do real research which you can use for your local science fair. Most likely you will win the county level and go to state and maybe nationals. You also have the potential to get your name on a paper, even though you might be 4th> author and get a letter of recommendation from the PI, which you can use when you apply to college.

Yes, all for $3,000.
Nice to be loaded.
What's next? UF Med school without an MCAT?

Actually, the four people I knew who did the program were not "loaded." $3000 is pretty cheap compared to the ones at other universities. My cousin went to a summer program at Harvard and that was about $15,000 for the summer. If you really want to do SSTP, then get a part time job and save for it; $3000 shouldn't be too hard to save.

^Yeah, on top of me not being to get in most likely because of grades, I'm broke! But it looks fun, and not as much pressure as regular school for some reason, even though it is.

"Yes, all for $3,000.

lmao

If I had known about this back on my sophomore year, I wouldn't have considered it (I loved my summers back then).

Oh, and this was hilarious, too.

"That picture they have up is a symbol of diversity, eh?"

"lol I have nothing against nerds and geeks since I'm sort of one myself, but wow - that picture perpetuates every stereotype of Asians and nerds that's ever been conceived."

After looking at those commends and the picture, I laffed. Hard XD

I know a few people who went to SSTP and they got a lot out of it. One friend is continuing the research that she started when she goes to UF in the summer. Making those kind of connections BEFORE you even START college is invaluable - because you'll start ahead of the game. I suggest you do it for sure. It may or may not help. I know people who did it and got into UF with lower stats and less EC involvement than me (rejected). SSTP MIGHT have pushed them over the edge. Doubt it, but you never know.
