I got into my EA school, and decided not to apply to Stanford. I now changed my mind, but the deadline is over. Do you think they will still accept my application (online), even though by the time I turn it in it will be about a week late?

call them!

I shall do so on Monday, but in the meantime, does anyone know (perhaps similar experience during the EA round?)

From their website: "The deadline for freshman admission under Regular Review is December 15."

The website also notes that the entire University, including the admissions office, is closed the weeks of Dec. 20 and Dec. 27, so the earliest you'd be able to reach someone would be Jan. 3. I would be very surprised if they would accept an application at that point. Sorry to report what doesn't sound like very good news....

Hmm, I can still log-on to my account, so perhaps I can slip by the system ;).

Note that the account you are logging into is somewhat independent of Stanford. Just because you can login does not mean that Stanford will still accept applications.

I think if you submit an application they will read it (since there is still a long time until they really begin reading), but it might hurt your chances to have submitted it late.

I strongly doubt that Stanford will accept you and ESPECIALLY not if you submit it a week late.

Do you think it may be worthwhile to write a note explaining why I turned it in late?

Depends. Saying that you applied late because you changed your mind last minute would not help. But if you had some sort of medical emergency or family issue, then it would be worth explaining.

I don't think they'll really notice if you're app is in late this year. If you look at their website, Stanford's extending the deadline for peple affected by the hurricane to Jan. 1. Chances are, when Stanford opens up again on Jan. 3, there's going to be a fair pile of apps from people in the South. Most likely, yours will be tucked away in there and no one will notice.

Don't feel too confident though. The italicize "from the affected areas only" on the page and then repeat that "All other students are expected to meet our original application deadlines."

Oh my...I feel nauseous. I just noticed that when I submitted my application, I didn't remember to copy and paste my long essay from Word. Omg omg omg omg....

What should I do??? I wrote them a letter of apology and sent in my essay again as an attachment and a separate e-mail. I'm going to the post office first thing tomorrow to send it by mail.

As you guys said, they're extending the deadline for pple in the South. Do you think it will affect my app (or my chances) if I sent in my essay separately ? (I'm not from the South by the way) At this point, it looks like I have to give up Stanford and look elsewhere.

Suggestions?? Help!

"Don't feel too confident though. The italicize "from the affected areas only" on the page and then repeat that "All other students are expected to meet our original application deadlines."

Yeah, but would they really bother looking at the return address? Assuming the late stack is fairly sizable, I don't think they'd really care. Either way, just send it in. At worst, you'll get rejected (which happens to 80% of everyone, so no biggie).

Just out of curiosity, the ad com officers aren't the people who actually put together the files right? They have file technicians or something along those lines to do that job correct? Assuming that's true, I guess you might end up irritating some file technicians, but the the ad com officers would never know about it.

... the ad coms look at what town you're from, what high school you went to, etc. It's going to be extremely obvious if you're from Massachusetts and everyone else is from Florida.

I don't think there will be a problem. They want MORE applications, not less. The more applicants, the smaller their acceptance ratio. I'm sure they'll accept your application, and they might even appreciate your laid-back approach, which is consistent with Stanford's general California attitude.

"I'm sure they'll accept your application, and they might even appreciate your laid-back approach, which is consistent with Stanford's general California attitude."

You...don't actually believe that, do you? Because that's stupid.

that's sort of like "oh, we're laid back, if you got a couple Cs your junior year you know that's ok, we like your approach to school, it's very consistent with our attitude". It's STANFORD. Not CSU Long Beach.

Can you link me to the log in page for Stanford's online app. I can't seem to find it and all my bookmarks got deleted. I wanted to print off a copy of my app. Thanks.

I havent been contacted yet about missing materials or if they recieved my app. Should I panic?

sprkl325: I think you're fine because they usually send out an email telling you if they are missing materials from you about 2-3 weeks after the deadline, and then you get a few days to fax it to them. And they're all nice and like "we realize materials can get lost for a lot of reasons, etc, etc, so this being late won't hurt your chances..." something like that.

Actually, it says "We understand that there are many factors that could cause your application to be incomplete. Please be assured that the evaluation of your application will not be negatively affected by the late submission of the missing credential."

They said I was missing my secondary school report and my counselor said she was sure she sent it, so I called them all freaked out, "Are you sure you don't have it?" And the lady was like, "Let me look... oh, it's okay, honey, you know what, I found it." Then she said it was funny how I sent different parts of the form in under two names, apparently I'd sent in my teacher and counselor recs under my English name (b/c they know me as that) and the other stuff under my legal name. So then she laughed and said she didn't know what to call me.

I don't know, I think they're pretty laid back.
