yesterday i checked the dodmerb site and learned that i am finally medically cleared. however, i still have one more medical concern. several months ago when i sent in the results of my physical, i received a call from one of the dodmerb officials who asked if my retainer was removable or permanent. i told her it was removable. but just this past week, i went to the ortho for a check-up and learned that i had two retainers. one on the top and one of the bottom. the bottom one being permanent. i checked on dodmerb's website and it said that retainers were allowed, but the fact that the offical called me earlier made me wonder if certain type of retainers (particularly permanent ones) were not. so at this point, should i email/call dodmerb and bring up this issue (and most likely have to go through the medical process again) or just stop worrying? the last thing i want is to get kicked out of west point because of failing to inform them about my permanent retainer.

oops, forgot one more thing, thanks for answering my question in advance

To quote from the dental instruction letter:

"New candidates must arrive at West Point without any potentially disqualifying medial/dental conditions. Examples of these conditions include, but are not limited to 1) active orthodontic appliances in place. (Routine orthodontic care must be completed, though you may have fixed or removable retainers.)"

spurs21:Since they asked about your retainers and you gave them incomplete information, I would call them back and clarify. Based on the info above it shouldn't be a problem.
Congratulations on being cleared!

call them and ask if it's an issue. If it is just have the retainer removed.

It's not an issue. I have one too. It's really not worth calling.

hey marines4me, how'd you get your sn? i'm curious...

I was going to be a Marine before accepting here. I'd been training and doing PT with a local Marine unit in my area before I decided to go to West Point--I had a full ROTC scholarship to Georgetown.
