**I was forced into an AP Class by my father lol in 9th. I didn't have a good teacher for AP Human, first year ever teaching and we had about one A a quarter except for the last one. She was a tough teacher, much tougher than the other AP Human Geo Teacher. I took the exam last year, I got a 3, was ok... with the score. I was bored one day, and nothing to do and I thought to see if I'd remember anything from last year out of complete boredom?

I see the MC Released Exam and look over the questions and answer them real quick, and I missed barely ANY! LOL. Definitely enough for a 5. I couldn't believe it, I did better now without looking at the subject for a year, and did worse last year.

Luckily I did ok last year.. but I could of done BETTER! It shows most 9th graders new to high school aren't ready for AP yet. For some reason our minds aren't ready lol. For instance I saw a bunch of questions on the exam from things I learned in my World History H Class at school on it. So basically if I took it this year instead of last year I could of done much better, plus I would of gotten the better teacher since my teacher stopped teaching it after one year. Should I retake it? Does a 3 look bad?**

Just to add here's a bit of advise: Freshman: Wait at least until your in 10th, then you'll be ready. If you take AP Human Geo, it can be an extremely easy course if you wait until 10th when you start learning more history.

Naw. AP scores can’t really hurt your app unless you do consistently poorly.

Uhm. My friend got a 2 on Physics as a junior, reported it, and got into all of the schools to which she applied – a list that included Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, and Cornell. If you’re looking for anecdotal evidence, I think she wins. ;x

Definitely don’t retake it; that’s silly. And how would you feel if (albeit against all odds) you only got a 4, or didn’t improve at all? XP

Son took AP History as a sophomore and got a 3 on the test, even though he did well in the class. I think he didn’t have the maturity level for that difficult a test at that time. Seriously thought about retaking it this year, but will be a year removed from the subject matter, so more likely to do worse.

Taking other APs this year for courses he’s currently in, and hope to do better on those, now that he’s a year older.

Will try to CLEP out of history, if possible.

A 3 isn’t bad and what college’s look for is improvement. If you got a 2 and next year you got a 3 that’s great. It shows that you can do better each year. I’m in AP Human Geo now and I got a 3 on the practice test and I’m proud of myself. My teacher told all his classes this and 95% of the kids got a 3 or better on the practice test. I do not regret taking it and would tell 8th graders to take it too. It prepares you for other AP’s and it’s just one AP class. A 3 can give you college credit at many college’s, unless you want to go to a top 20 school. A 3 is really good and a 2 really isn’t that bad, because if you do better you’ll show schools improvement.

A 3 doesn’t look bad. More anecdotal evidence, but I got a 3 in AP Euro in 10th grade, reported it, and got into MIT. I don’t think APs matter too much, too be honest.

Yes, when I took it last year I don’t think I was mature enough to be in AP. Now, I am. I remember taking it and I kinda freaked out while taking it. Lol I look back at practice tests and I can get more right now than I did last year. So I’m guessing I won’t retake. I’ll just try to get 5’s on the 4 AP Exams I’ll take next year.

I got a 5 in hugeo freshman year (got an B- in the class).

Honestly, for APHG, as long as you know the vocab and models, it doesn’t matter if the class is good. The test is 80% common sense. We never talked about the subject of two of the essay prompts, so I used examples from my own readings and the news.

Took AP Art History as a freshman, 94 in the class and 3 on the exam. Thank god for extra credit.

Now as a sophomore, I’m taking AP Calculus BC and AP Physics B. I just don’t think I have developed enough for these tests. I also don’t recommend AP Physics B online; AP Calculus is straight forward if you don’t fall behind.

I was going to take AP Art History next year, but no room for it. I’m taking AP World History. I got a 82% or 92% (with 10 points) in the class last semester and have the same now.

Art History is amazing. But maybe I just think that because I have an incredible teacher. Really if you like art, it’s indispensable. Try to take it at some point, in HS or college.

It depends on the context. Obviously, if you got mostly 4’s and 5’s, and then you get a 3, that’s perfectly fine. If you only took one AP test and got a 3, then that’s fail.

But then again, I don’t think AP scores matter that much.

I think you should be fine, especially considering the fact that you were a freshman. At many high schools that is practically unheard of (idk about yours specifically) but at any rate taking an AP as a freshman is a good thing.
