Does a "D" really affect you when applying to a CSU school?

I got a D in Algebra 2 and in Honors English 11. Would it actually really affect me when applying to a CSU school? Or do I have to retake both of them in summer school?

you need to provide more info.
GPA, test scores, in state/out state/international

Generally speaking, the decision to accept or reject is not based on 1 or 2 grades. Plenty of B/C student get accepted in CSU. with that said, i would be less worried if the Ds are for non-core subjects.

My all around GPA is a 3.05. I passed both Cahsee’s and I have not took the SATs but I am preparing for them. I am in state.

Oh and I meant Honors English 10.

your GPA seems good enough for CSU. if you can get a decent SAT score, you’d be fine. i assume you are junior. try not to go over board with your course load in senior year. it is much better to get a A in a regular class than getting a C in honors/AP.

Yes, a D affects you in that courses in which you receive a D do not count toward your A-G requirements. The courses you list are required A-G courses, so yes, you will have to re-take them and earn a C or better in order to be eligible for CSU admission.

Hey actually the cost of an ap exam in india is too much which i can’t afford. Is there any sort of scholarship or smthing that could help . Pls do tell thnks

You need 4 years of English, and math through algebra 2 or higher. The semesters with D grades do not count for the purpose of fulfilling the high school course requirements.

For English, you need to retake the semester(s) with the D grade(s) or take alternative English courses meeting the requirement (see http://doorways.ucop.edu and look up the a-g courses in your high school).

For math, you need to either retake the semester(s) with the D grade(s) or complete trigonometry or precalculus to fulfill the math requirement. See http://www.calstate.edu/sas/publications/documents/csu-uc-a-gcomparisonmatrix.pdf</a> (second page regarding validation).

There are alternative ways of fulfilling the a-g requirements with standardized test scores or college courses as listed here: http://www.calstate.edu/sas/publications/documents/AdmissionHandbook.pdf</a></p>

What would a decent score be? And I am a junior. So those 2 D’s are not affecting me? I got the D in Algebra 2 in freshmen year. This semester I got 1 A,3 Bs, 2 Cs. And in my senior year I am planning to take Gothic Lit, AP Gov, AP Stats, Art 1 (for the 1 year of arts I have to take for the a-g requirements), journalism, and maybe being a TA for a teacher.

Please re-read posts #6 and #8.

YES, those Ds are affecting you because they DO NOT COUNT toward your A-G requirements. If you do not retake them you are NOT ELIGIBLE for CSU admission.

ucbalumnus has thoroughly listed your options in post #8.

You know, you can read the document which lists the standardized test scores that allow you to fulfill the b (English) and c (math) requirements for admission if you do not retake the courses with the D grades (or take another English course, or a higher level math course).

As it is now, the D grades will jeopardize your CSU eligibility. However, a C or higher in statistics will validate algebra 2. But if you will complete only 7 semesters of English courses with C or higher grades, you will not be CSU eligible.

Sorry. My page did not load those comments. Thank you.

I heard you only need 3 years of math in a-g requirements. So because I got a D in my first year can I repair that by getting a C or higher by taking a fourth year of math like AP stats or do I have to retake it?

The three years of math must include Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. However, the validation policy means that a higher level math course can fulfill some of the lower level math courses.

what is intermediate algebra?

So by taking Ap stats or any stats and getting a C or better I can validate my Algebra 2 grade and I wouldn’t have to retake that class?
