A friend of mine got rejected from Berklee College of Music (he's a drummer). They said they do not accept appeals. He appealed anyway, and got accepted.

i knew someone who appealed UCSB one winter and got rejected. They wanted this person's high school transcript along with CC transcript and optional letter of recommendations, 2 at the most and a letter why they are appealing, they presented new information but it wasn't enough to overturn the decision. They said they wasn't enough room and it was overbooked, like they had more people apply than ever and offered less space.

I do but it was at a state school (U of MNTwin Cities).

Haha, I have a funny appeal story. I applied to the honors program at my large state university. A friend of mine did as well.... let's just say football is big here, and her family had so much influence that they had front row and center season football tickets... this basically means you have a lot of power over the school.

Anyway, long story short, my friend got in with a GPA .4 lower than mine, 10 point higher SATs, NO extracurriculars, no honors or AP courses, etc., etc.. I got rejected. I was so infuriated I just wanted to write them a letter to let them know how I felt and to acknowledge the screwwyness/politics of the whole admissions process. I let them know that they admitted someone with no AP/honors courses, while they rejected someone who had taken most all of the honors/AP courses offered at the high school. I told them they admitted someone with no extra-curriculars, and rejected someone who had done and lettered in a sport all 4 years, was a member of numerous clubs, played a musical instrument, sang in the choir, etc., etc.. Needless to say, I got a letter back saying "Welcome!"

I actually didn't attend... my intentions were never to "get in" with that "appeal". To add to the situation, the school ended up begging me to come, way after the May 1st deadline.

I don't really understand college admissions... I never will - especially because they base so much on SAT scores but yet they don't seem to predict all that much. My SATs weren't even in the middle 50 percent of the school I did end up graduating from, but yet I graduated in the top 25 percent of my class.

money talks i guess

Can friends write letters for other friends who are appealing?

A friend of mine got rejected from his #1 school and I was wondering if me and a couple friends could write a letter on his behalf maybe?

Do you think that would work?

bump please......

I knew a girl whose older brother had a serious lung condition. He applied to UCD and UCSD, was rejected by UCD and accepted by UCSD. His lung collapsed, and he needed to be closed to home, (Davis). He appealed and is now attending.
That's when it is appropriate to appeal.
