Depends on where you are and how willing you are to travel. I assume most states have colleges that focus in that area. In Massachusetts, it would be Framingham State University.

Look here: it shows what each states requirements are and what colleges provide that

A high school friend of mine went to Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology before getting a job as a nutritionist in a major hospital in New York City.

As a longtime RD I would recommend that no matter where you go, be mindful of any student debt. You will likely need to do a separate internship after obtaining your B.S. These internships are often unpaid and often require tuition themselves. Working during the internships is often discouraged. Also, most internships are obtained through a matching process and there are students each year that fail to match. Some try again while others pursue other work.

Please remember to check salaries, RDs are not well paid compared to other health care professionals. While I loved my work, it would have been very hard if I had come out with significant debt.

Personally, I would recommend finding an RD you could shadow. Talk to them about job prospects in your area, etc.

Thank you, but how do I find RD that she can shadow? Thank you!

All hospitals will have RD’s. You could try to contact the hospital’s clinical nutrition manager and explain your situation. Another resource would be your state Dietetics association. You could reach out to see if they have any RD’s in your community willing to talk to you.

If one of your local schools has a dietetic undergrad program, you could also reach out to them. They may have alumni willing to talk/work with you.

Good luck!

Thank you!
