I feel like on this website 99% of the people are perfect, they look down on you for not have a 2200 on your SAT, or not being ranked in the top 5% of your class.. etc...

I see people with REALLY nice list's of EC's (IMO, I guess) but people are always harping on them about "That is SO not good enough, what were you thinking?!" etc.. and so on like this.

Yeah colleges are TOUGH to get into, but my sister got into UPENN ed with a 2030 on her SAT's and a nice list of EC's.

I don't even want to post my stat's because i'd rather not be shot down and just let my fate fall to me when it may, some people here are really helpful but most of the time I feel like they think there looking down on EVERYONE who isn't as "perfect" as they are.

In this, I'll probably get bad mouthed and stuff so i'll probably just look. My peace has been said.

Heh heh just kidding. It really doesn’t matter. Frankly, the people I go to college with have stellar stats yet I have met very few who are as intellectually motivated/mature as some of my high school friends.

Unfortunately, that’s just the way alot of people on this site are. Oh well, I comfort myself knowing that people like ‘Nooob’ are usually social ■■■■■■■ that end up having terrible college lives, normally because they’re too self-involved to make any friends.

(unless he was being sarcastic, then feel free to ignore the personal attack.)

There is such an amazing array of colleges in the US, with some good and/or interesting ones being fairly easy to get into (Oregon, Colorado, Purdue, Kansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Michigan State, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Miami (Ohio), etc.). And even if you can’t get into any of these, you go to a community college for a year or two, get good grades, and you can transfer to places like these with ease. So…no reason to be resentful of the narrow-minded folks who make posts and make it sound like your life is already over if you don’t get into a top-20 school in the Northeast or in California.

Amarie92, you are surely not the only person to feel like that. However, the good and the bad about this site is that we’re all anonymous. For many people, the effect is a little like getting drunk. There are mean drunks, and there are happy drunks. Your real personality comes out. Some rude or dishonest people will say a lot of crap they might not say if their names were attached. Some very nice, helpful people would not be as forthcoming with real, personal information if their identities were known and it might embarrass someone.

If you learn to take the good and the bad, if your do your best to keep the tone of conversation high, you can get some very good advice here. Sometimes when people seem a little harsh about stats, it is an older person trying to be genuinely helpful by being realistic about a kid’s chances.

Amarie92, for every jerk who denigrates people in his/her posts, there are at least two or three others who are positive and thoughtful. What you do in life is you listen to the useful, helpful information and disregard the disparaging comments. It’s up to you if you want to post your stats. Congratulations on your sister getting into UPenn! I hope she has a happy and successful college experience.
