^^ i also agree. go to a csu, shamelessly get a 4.0->go to med school.

Pretty much the only advantage to CSU is better GPA but at UC there is so much more research opportunities and other opportunities in general. Even if you got a 4.0 at CSU, you still need to be more competitive in terms of extracurriculars, MCATS, etc… than a student from Cal or UCLA because even though medical schools say they don’t consider where your undergraduate degree is from, they do(to some extent). Personally, if you got into an UC (especially Berkeley or UCLA) and can afford it, I don’t think it’s a good idea to go to CSU. What if you decide to not be pre-med(like alot of people)? Will you be ok with a CSU degree knowing that you could’ve gone to Cal or UCLA? Just my 2 cents.

You do learn actually science in IB. Some IB courses like 117 and 131 may consist of a lot of memorization, but they aren’t representative of all of IB. Also the idea that MCB is any less memorization that IB is unsubstantiated.

Isnt UC Davis, UCSD, UCLA, UC Irvine better places to do pre-med among the UC’s?

^??? umm I think it’s pretty subjective… go whereever you feel you can succeed at Some people like the competitive pre-med student body at Berkeley because it push them to work harder but for some people the pressure is hard to handle. Are you premed?

no, but my best friend is.

my friend told me that doing pre-med in the four schools i mentioned is better because “all four of them have medical centers/hospitals in which he would be able to do research, volunteer at the med center, and do internships.” He added that “having exposure to the clinical setting is important.” This is his two cents.

Well, there’s hospitals everywhere… There is 3 near Berkeley/Oakland not counting all the ones in SF… If you are a premed, you need to be proactive and seek opportunities for yourself. It’s very unlikely for him to research, volunteer, and intern all at the same hospital when all the other premeds in those UCs are using these medical centers to “research, volunteer, and intern.”

@starmania, when you said "when all the other premeds in those UCs are using these medical centers to “research, volunteer, and intern.” are you referring to davis, ucla, ucsd and uci?

yes. (10 character)
