Does Cal Poly have a weird major policy?

As of now, I am treating Cal Poly as my safety school. I applied under majoring in economics, although I doubt I will truly want to follow through with it. Does Cal Poly work under a system where you can’t change your major once you applied under it? I heard from a friend that if you want to change your major, you would have to reapply for the school, and restart your college process.

If this is the case, then I will not even consider going to the school. Can someone shed some light onto me as to how Cal Poly differs (or maybe not at all) from other universities? Thanks a lot!

I don't know much, but I have heard that it's really difficult and definitely a hassle, because a lot of majors are impacted. but with econ. i'm not sure if that would be the case.

Hey guys. for me, switching my major wasn't too difficult, although it could vary from which majors you're trying to switch into. If you want to switch majors under the same college (i.e., Econ is under the Business college), then it should be very easy. Switching into a major of a different college may require a bit more work, but you do NOT have to reapply for the school. I think Cal Poly is getting a bad rep. for the major changes (just because it's always more fun to exaggerate!).

I switched from Civil Engineering to City and Regional Planning, and all I had to do was take one course under City and Regional Planning and apply at the next quarter. I was told they almost never reject your request unless youre GPA is below a 2.0.
