Hi
I am wondering if I should take a course or something during the summer, does columbia really care about that?
I know that it will look good in my college app but I am considering this because in the summer I have to do volleyball, tennis and vacation.

What do you guys think, I am going to be in 10th grade next year.

If you can, it's better to apply to a selective summer program than a non-selective 6k summer program. Attending one of those just shows that you have money.

but selective courses cost even more (around 10k, the amount for a semester of college at a top private school)

If it were me, I'd take the summer off. Practice for your volleyball or tennis teams or whatever, but don't fill your summer to the brim just to have something to do. Relax and enjoy the summer.

I have practice for tennis and volley each week during the summer and I am working (I am not rich, middle class). I am also doing community service. The thing is, my school is soooooooo competative that everyone is going to take courses during the summer.

So I'll try to find a program thats not that expansive, any you guys know of???
Thank You for your opinions

Who cares what everyone else is doing? It's like when 100 whales or dolphins die together on the beach because they all follow each other out of the water and onto the beach. You have 9 months to take classes. Use the summer to devote time to something else.
