Does Harvard contact students for alumni interviews?

Does Harvard contact students for alumni interviews? or do the students have to contact Harvard alumni interview association to schedule an interview?

Harvard will contact you

it must take harvard a long time then... then again 29000 applications=lotta alumnus to help

I had my alumni interview over the phone. It was sort of random because I was given no notice about it, the person just called me out of the blue and asked if I had some time to talk! This was way back in November though. I believe the only reason for this is because I'm being recruited as an athlete. Does anyone know if it's normal for an over the phone alumni interview?

From our experience, the alumni interviewer contacts the student and not Harvard itself.

^Same with both Ds. Alumni interviewer contacts student.

This year, in our town, it was done like a cattle call. A number of interviewers were in a ballroom and interviewees were marched in and talked to an alumni. Weird...5 years ago, each interviewer handled his or her own interviews.

That's what 29,000+ applications will do to your processes...

My daugher had her Harvard Alumni interview last week and it was a private meeting at the alumni's home. It was a great interview and my daughter said she seemed really interested and interesting herself. My daughter talked about Improv (which she's in) and the alum said she'd watched "Who's Line is this" and couldn't imagine how anyone could get up and be so clever. All in all it went very well. She was contacted directly by the alumni to set up the intereview.

The above poster is correct. They will contact you if you are offered one.

I received a letter from the alumni's law office to schedule an interview with his secretary.

For yale- The alumni called my home and sounded a lot younger and informal.

shrug

If I haven't been contacted yet, can I e-mail Harvard and ask about an interview? I applied on November 30, 2008.

When I applied (I think I sent my app in late October), I received an email from my alumni interviewer within 72 hours of my submission. As you can imagine, this was surprisingly prompt - it was not so for my friends who applied later (and interviewed with the same person, just for the record). I think the earlier you get your applications in, the sooner they will contact you (relative to your submission date). Also, it varies from person to person and region to region. Up here in the Northeast, there are likely to be far more alumni interviewers than in, say, Wisconsin, simply due to proximity to the school.

Peytoncline - given your location I doubt you'd be able to have an in-person interview. Given the long delay, you might want to contact Harvard and see if maybe a phone interview or something is possible... they probably have contact info for the Admissions Office on the website. Good luck!

I think in some countries you have to initiate contact with the interviewer.

All right, I'll try that. Some of my friends from school are having their Harvard interviews this week, and they didn't apply until a month after me (right before the deadline); that's why I was a little worried, but I guess it depends. I hope this means that they don't need an interview and my application is already strong enough (I hope that at least, lol).
