Does Hopkins allow students to make up their own major?

Hi there.
I was wondering if Hopkins lets its students to declare an "independant" major as some other top schools do.

I would like to plan my own major.. would-be called "Political Psychology" which is basically half psychology and half political science.
Is this possible at Hopkins?

P.S: I am not thinking about double-majoring, and I would like to minor in management, so I would just like to know an independant major is possible.

Thanks in advance for help!

Can Hopkins students take classes at nearby Loyola, Towson, etc if not offered at Hopkins? How doe this transfer over?

Hopkins will allow you to work with a faculty advisor and create an interdisciplinary major. Here's some more information about the requried process. Also, the degree checklisti* lists the requirements for your interdisciplinary major.

Hopkins does allow you to take courses at cooperative schools if a certain class isn't offered at Hopkins. I think you can take classes at Baltimore Hebrew University, College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Coppin State University, Goucher College, Loyola College, Maryland Institute College of Art, Morgan State University, Towson University, University of Baltimore, UMBC, and Villa Julie College.

One of my friends is actually doing the Interdisciplinary program and she says it is quite easy to follow through with. You just need to be motivated and have the initative to stick with it. Most people just choose to do double majors or double majors and minors (which really is not difficult to do b/c of the flexibility at Hopkins).

Though I have yet to do so, a number of friends have taken courses through the Baltimore consortium. I know a lot of people who take art courses at MICA and a few who have taken courses at Goucher. It is a nice addition to have available.

BTW, great questions. It is always nice to check CC and see real questions - not just what are my chances threads.

I have a question about transportation. I heard there is a shuttle system that drive students from one college to another in Baltimore City? How often does the shuttle come?

Yes, you are asking about the Collegetown shuttle. Check out this site for all the details: <a href="http://www.colltown.org/asp/shuttle.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.colltown.org/asp/shuttle.asp</a></p>

I have used it numerous times to get to Towson and go shopping. :-)

The (free) Baltimore Collegetown shuttle service runs between Goucher, College of Notre Dame, Hopkins, Loyola and MICA. The same shuttle can get you to the Towson Mall, Penn Station and to the Inner Harbor on Fridays and weekends.

Hopkins also runs their own shuttle routes that go between Homewood (our main campus), Penn Station, Peabody, the Med School, and the Eastern campus.
