Might be a stupid question because I have never seen snow in my life and I live in SoCal...figure out the rest, haha. How is the weather down there? Are the winters brutal?

Oh and also, is Duke part of a big city and a nice campus?

oh dear…those southern californians haha. but seriously, im from michigan so i might be biased in the other direction, but north carolina winters are practically nothing. they might get 1-2 significant snow events a year(3 inches or more) and then a few ice/sleet storms or very light snow, but the temperatures are in the 40s during the day usually. This may seem cold to you and dont take me wrong, the winters will be harsher than southern california, but coming from a place where 30 degrees in january feels warm, NC winters=a breeze.

You think it’s a breeze, and then you realize that there’re maybe 2 snowplows for the entire state of North Carolina. I’m not even kidding, last winter, there was a “significant snow event” and they sent all the trucks to the western mountain regions. The result was that no street was really plowed and people just slipped and slid their way to work/class for 2 or 3 days. What made it worse was that Duke administrators, in their infinite wisdom, said “most students live on campus anyway” so we’ll have class as usual, never mind the 1000 or so off campus seniors or the 6000 or so grad students or the thousands of faculty/staff/etc. I almost got killed on my way in too.
