After early action/early decision letters came out, people made facebook groups called ___________ 2012. People seem to be joining if they got in and think they might want to attend that school. But will schools you applied to RD look at the names in these facebook groups and not accept you because you showed interest in this other university or college?

no.........

Probably not, but why take the chance?

People always tell stories about adcoms going on Facebook, and if your privacy settings are low enough to allow that, it always could happen. It's unlikely that an adcom would look at every applicant's facebook, but if they DID, they would probably look at that.

It probably wouldn't be a big deal, because if you were SURE you were going to that school, you wouldn't have applied to theirs.

And, of course, EDers wouldn't be applying anywhere RD.

(Personally I'm not joining one of those facebook groups until I actually enroll in the college.)

I dont reallt think an adcom will scrutinize your facebook profile just to check if you have another school on your list. If that takes 1 minute for every applicant, then schools that have 20000 applicants will have to devote 20000 mins ie 334 hours ie 14 continuous days for this. It calls for a new "facebook check dept" at the college.

I've read a few articles recently about adcoms and facebook/myspace, etc and there's even a couple of active threads on CC about the subject. The general consensus is that yea, adcoms can access facebook and check profiles (depending on your privacy settings) but by no means has it become a standard part of the college admissions process. Personally I don't think there's a need to get paranoid about this. But if the possibility of someone checking bothers you in any way, the best thing to do is to go with your gut and not take chances.

if it's somehow accessible, I would keep an eye out for such things...
