Does Major at Texas A&M Matter for Admitting

Thank you!

So the totals include the Blinn alternative pathway?

Thank you! So we don’t know how many of those are TEAB and how many are Only college station? I know TEAB is considered full admit, I was just curious
.

Blinn is not considered a pathway, it is in admission total. TEAB is not the same as Blinn Team.
TEAB is one year, students go through same ETAM process as TAMU general engineering students. TEAB has the advantage of paying far lower tuition.

Last two cycles about 300-400 TEAB.

Thank you! So helpful!!

That’s really good information. I was confused by the language from the website that makes it sound different than direct admission since it speaks in terms of “an alternative pathway” as indicated by the quoted language below

" Texas A&M Engineering at Blinn is a unique program in which the Texas A&M University Office of Admissions invites qualified candidates who express an interest in an engineering major the opportunity to participate in ‘an alternative pathway’ to their engineering degree.

As members of Texas A&M Engineering at Blinn, students are co-enrolled in the Texas A&M University College of Engineering and Blinn College, taking their Texas A&M courses on the Texas A&M campus and their Blinn courses at the RELLIS Campus in Bryan. Students who successfully complete the program with a minimum 3.75 grade point average at Blinn and Texas A&M earn automatic admission to their first-choice engineering major."

Also, the language DOES NOT say what happens to students without a 3.75 or higher gpa at the completion of the program.

My son is still waiting to hear back, applied in early August. My question is that he had Business as #1 (which we know is probably not going to happen) and Communication as #2. He is wanting to change his #2 to Econ now but I’m not sure if we should try and change it now or wait to see if he even gets accepted. Does anyone know how hard it would be to change to Econ if he does get accepted into Communications? I don’t want to mess anything up in his application process.

Most (~90%) TEAB get assigned an engineering major in TAMU for Sophomore year.
Even at TAMU only around 218 out of 1165 Freshmen get GPA 3.75 or higher. Many with 3.5 or above still get their first choice major. The GPA at TEAB or full-admit TAMU engineering carries sames weight and consideration. So TEAB is mainly cheaper tuition and students need to do some bus riding for first year.
TEAB nowadays is a spillover of admission. Some auto-admit last year applied after EA got assigned TEAB as well.

Not hard to change to Econ after admitted to Communications. If your student’s plan is to eventually migrate to Mays there are some things you can consult Christi93 on what courses to focus.

To piggyback on the question from momof3, our son also applied to Mays in early August and hasn’t heard back. He had a 3.79 and 1350 SAT with the most rigorous classes offered at his school. He would like to change his major to Statistics which would be a better fit but we are concerned that changing it on the admissions website now might delay his decision. Any thoughts??

Changing during winter break will be fine. Right now is in second review phase so it doesn’t really matter much. If your son gets second choice or Blinn, Statistics is a major not difficult to transfer to.
