Just curious and how the status on myMIT will be shown?

My daughter was admitted early action in the class of 2011, and there were no advance indications of the decision. On the day decisions came out online, she was in a math competition trying to simultaneously solve problems and hack into her MIT page via cell phone.
Some of you will face similar situations. :-)

Yeah, there isn't an indication of acceptance on MyMIT until the Monday after decisions are out, usually.

Does the page changes to something different as presently it only shows the details about the application?

nope, apparently there's just another box with links for admitted students.

...i know too much about MIT for my own good....gahhhhh

I applied through QuestBridge and was not matched. However, last night I got a call from McGreggor Crowley himself saying that he was "truly sorry" I could not be matched and that I was an "exceptional applicant" and should apply EA (which I did).

What do you guys make of this? No one else in the mega QB thread seems to have gotten this call, so I'm hoping it's a really good sign.

I'm not Questbridge, but I hope that it's a good sign for you too!

out of 1800 students how did he single u out goldenphi lol... i saw facebook group lotta smart kids man... and lotta worthy students... if he called u, u sure can figure that some other students got called to

If it's the same as last year, your MyMIT account won't show any changes for a few days after you get your decision (if you're accepted), but after the weekend it will show the Admitted Students Portal, which includes a link to the 2013 guestbook so you can start stalking all your future classmates :)

Any other notifications of your acceptance will be on a purely case-by-case basis, as far as I'm aware.

Isn't there a "decisions site" that's www.decisions.mit.edu? At least that's what I've heard from other CCers. Just wondering!

@bms2009: Yep, decisions.mit.edu , but it won't go up until actual decisions time.

@Ambitiousteen: Yeah I know. I posted a thread on the FB group to see if there were any others, but I'm really intrigued by this mysterious call.

Does anyone know the approximate amount of time between the online posting of decisions and when the snail-mail tubes are sent?

2 days, i think?

Thank you, hamsi2004!
I'm deliberating as to whether I should wait for the tube (epic excitement/shock!!) or immediately satisfy my thirst of MIT acceptance. Hmm... Is a tube worth 2 days of unbearable anxiety??? :\
What are you going to do?

I'm definitely checking the online decision. I'll get all excited, and then just when I'm calming down, BOOM! The tube arrives at my door and I can savor the confetti and the poster and whatever goodies come with it and get excited all over again...

...then make all my friends jealous.

...if I get in. Haha.

I hope that they send out the actual tube on December 12th so that they come in on the 15th or 16.

As soon as MIT send any indication outside of admission officer circle of acceptances it can leak out to the public so rest assures the tube will be on way only after online disclosure of the results.

^ Darn those leaking mailmen!

[/quote]
In past years, the mailed decisions have been sent on a Friday, and online decisions were released the following day.

Regarding the online/waiting for the mail debate- trust me, you'll want to know online. Let's break this down, going by last year's results:

Chance of getting a tube: 13.3%
Chance of not getting a tube: 86.7%
(not to totally kill morale around here or anything, and this year's tube percentage will be even lower, given the application increase)

You'll want to know. Just trust me on this one. Getting in without the tube in your hands is still pretty fantastic.

I feel really ignorant and incompetent as an MIT applicant right now, but what the hell is a "tube"? :)
