does my 9th grade count....?

I
m currently a junior right now…
When I was a freshman, I went to a Japanese school in Japan. After completing 9th grade, my family and I moved outside the country, and I go to an international school now. The Japanese consider 9th grade as
middle school
(HS is from 10~12)- so my question is, would I need to send in those grades when I apply for college? And also, the grading scale is a 1~5, but the grading system is so different that a 5 does not neccesarily equal an A and so on. It was a really competitive school too, so I got a lot of 4
s/3`s. If I HAVE to send in these scores, how would the admissions officers view this? Would it decrease my chances dramatically??

It shouldn't...but check with counselors at new school, I am sure they have experience being an international school. And many schools don't really look at freshman (9) grades anyway. I would email the admin people at the schools you are interested in to see what usually happens.

Your chances should be okay, especially if you do really well in 10,11,12 grade...rising grades is a plus...

It brings down your cumulative GPA in general but the colleges take into consideration that you spent your freshman year in Japan.
I wouldnt worry about it that much

Don't worry about your 9th grade results. I got an average of something like 5.0 our of 7.0 in the 9th grade, but still got into Stanford. What's really important is how your grades improved, not how you performed three years ago.

Our of pure personal interest, if you don't mind, can you tell me which school you attended in Japan? I used to go to one of those, so your circumstance sounds somewhat similar to mine...

thanks everyone for your advice! I really appreciate it.

KAZtro:
I sent the name of the school through PM!
