Does my future look bright? You be the judge

Hey guys
I am a Canadian junior student currently enrolled in the IB program. I want to go into pre-med to a good univ. in the US, preferably in the top 20 ranks. I am not sure about my major yet but i still want to get a rough idea about my chances. I need little to no financial aid for my undergrad.

Background: I came to Canada from South Asia when i was 13 years old ( I am 16 now) and knew very little english. As you can tell, i have improved in that department. Hopefully stressing this will help me in some schools

To give you guys an idea of what type of student i am, i had a 90% percent avg. throughout my pre-IB years. Got bunch of awards within school ...nothing special though. Next year, i am taking IB biology, IB Chemistry, Higher level/ IB Math, IB French and more. As far as my
recommendations go, i am certain i can get really good ones and i am also very confident about my essay.

SAT 1:
Math: 740
Writing: 720
Critical Writing: 650
Total: 2110 (will study and aim for 2250)

Extra-Curriculars: ( I am not gonna lie. my ECs need some work)
-Empowered Student Partnership(9,10)
-Asian Club(9,10)
-Class Rep(10)
-Junior Soccer Team(9,10.. city runner ups)
-Peer Tutor(9,10)
-Tech Crew(9,10)
-Dedicated Cricket, ping pong and Squash Player for about 5 years

Volunteer: (so far, around 150 hours... aiming for 400)
-Hospital Volunteer
-Local Community Center Volunteer
-Weekend Volunteer Tutor for 2 kids

Here are some schools on my list right now.. please let me know which ones are matches, safeties and reaches.Feel free to suggest some other good ones:

John Hopkins
Cornell
U. of Michigan-Ann Arbor
UW-Madison
Vanderbilt
U. of North Carolina- Chapel Hill
McGill
Northwestern

Thanks a lot guys! i really appreciate this

Cornell - moderate/high reach
U. of Michigan-Ann Arbor - probably in
UW-Madison - probably in
Northwestern - slight reach I'd say, maybe match

Hey Shad
If you can bump up your SAT score some more, you have a good shot at those schools.
i would say...

JH-reach
Cornell-reach
UW-Madison-match
UNC-Chapel Hill-match
U. Of michigan-match

i am not sure about the other ones. hope it helps

i'm gonna do my best to judge. your SAT scores are kind of smiliar to mine -- i also did worst on CR, which is kind of weird 'cause i love reading and all, but whatever.

John Hopkins - reach / possible match
Cornell - reach (for everyone. ivies are so unpredictable from what i've heard..)
U. of Michigan-Ann Arbor - match
UW-Madison - match
Vanderbilt - match
U. of North Carolina- Chapel Hill - match
McGill - considering you're canadian, i think you have a good shot.
Northwestern - reach / possible match

good luck!

thx for the help crystalpineapple. i just recently heard me being an international lowers my acceptance chance by some amount. which isnt very good news.

short answer: no, your future does not look bright.

seriously, why would you ask that. only you can answer. if your sat is over 2100, you have a chance anywhere. everybody knows that. what is the point of this thread.

gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah...headache

You're right: being international does hurt your chances a good bit (even though Canada is right next to the U.S.). I would definitely raise the SAT for better chances. Anyway, these are Shad Faraz's chances...

John Hopkins - Reach
Cornell - Reach
U. of Michigan-Ann Arbor - High Match
UW-Madison - Match
Vanderbilt - High Match
U. of North Carolina- Chapel Hill - Reach
McGill - Do you really want to stay in cold Canada?
Northwestern - Reach

haha sry ExplorerCY.. i just see some threads with ppl with amazing stats and it kinda scares me.

Thanks cosine for ur chances. i will work hard on SAT and hopefully get it a bit higher.

you have to realize that if a school accepts 10%, the people on cc make up that top 5%. do your own research. you will feel better about yourself.

yea thx for the encouragement. yea i realize some of cc ppl are the best of the best. o by the way i dont know if i mentioned this but JH is my first choice, only because one my friends go there and he says its an overall amazing place

John Hopkins is a fine school with an excellent reputation. My cousin goes there and apparently its well rounded and just overall amazing. If you have the qualifications( i think you have a decent shot at JH) you should definately check it out. As for the other ones, i already provided my thoughs. best of luck!

i vote bright.

haha thx radionowhere, i think people have been more generous than i expected. i almost feel like i have a shot at JHU now. ill hope for the best

yea i think you do have a chance. but thats just me. im not very good at chancing anyway

"ill hope for the best"

what defines the best? is it an institution, or something greater?

Don't know what to say chance wise other than "go for it"!

when i mean the best... i mean the best possible outcome in general. since JHU is my top choice.. if i get in thatd be my best situation. anyone else chance me plz?

i would say
cornell- reach
JHU-reach/high match
UNC- high match
University of Michigan-match

where are you applying for ED?

Not to be rude or anything, but JHU is called JOHNS Hopkins University, not John. Your chance for admission would drop if you didn't even know the name of the place to which you're applying.

i knew that lol. any more imput . i would love some more chancing
