Does Northeastern Notify you about the honors program when accepted?

I’m so happy and honored to say that I was accepted to Northeastern with a scholarship today!! I got into the college of Social Sciences and Humanities, and was wondering whether I’d be notified later about the honors program or if I just didn’t get into it (which would be kind of surprising since I have a 34 ACT and a 4.0 GPA and had a bunch of leadership roles). So did I just not get in?? And if not, is there any way to get a re-read or anything??

I don’t mean to sound ostentatious or anything; I am so humbled to be given and opportunity to attend such a great and unique university!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Just didn’t get in. If I remember correctly, Dean’s Scholarship is awarded to the top 25% of the overall pool while Honors is the top 10% of each college. This may have changed as the Honors program was restructured this year- nobody knows details yet.

@novafan1225 thanks! I don’t think they do top 10% since a girl at my school was offered an honors scholarship with a much lower ACT and weighted GPA than mine.

" top 10% of each college. @ap012199 Meaning the college you and she were accepted to within NEU. Did she apply to a less competitive college at NEU than you?

It is incredibly common for some students to receive Honors, others to receive merit aid, and plenty to receive both. The methodology is not well understood. For what it’s worth, it would probably be in your best interest to be a smidgen less presumptuous. I would hope you’re only speaking this way in the interest of honesty on an anonymous website, but please don’t let it carry over into real life; it is very hard to pull off something like “No, it couldn’t be that someone else is better than me in any holistic way, I’m much smarter” without sounding bad.

@novafan1225 sorry if I sounded that way; I was just trying to figure out why this happened. I understand now. And she applied to the explore program (I don’t know how competitive that is).

@suzyQ7 do you know if it is very difficult to be in the top 10% for the college of social sciences and humanities?

My honors acceptance was combined with my admission letter

@marrtinac congrats!! To which college did you apply?

@ap012199 the Colege of Science for Geology and Chem. I honestly don’t know how I got in

@marrtinac haha nice!! Are you going to attend? I got into CSSH but don’t know if I got into the honors college yet.

@ap012199 Northeastern is one of my top choices, but the cost for the school is so high. If somehow I’m able to afford it I’ll definitely be a husky next year

@marrtinac yeah same. Even with the scholarship I got it’s super expensive.

@ap012199 If there’s any way I can rack up some scholarships the honors college is gonna be my new home (:

@marrtinac lol I emailed the Honors admission office after my acceptance to ask whether I would know later about the honors college and if I could still be considered for the honors program but I’m pretty sure that was a waste of both my and their time. Hopefully I don’t get my acceptance rescinded haha!

@ap012199 (: I wish you the best of luck, maybe we will pass each other on campus next year

@marrtinac I’m in the same boat as you, honors program is amazing but they are still asking for so much $. I think the co-op experience would be worth it but I’m not sure

To my knowledge, there is no way to get a “reread.” However, I’m pretty sure that if you attend you can apply to be in the honors program for your second year on.

I was accepted to honors as well and it was in my acceptance page along with an invite to the honors student welcome day

NEU is a very expensive school. It illustrates the need to run the NPC because even after aid, many families find it is just too expensive. Great school. Just too expensive for many.

Congrats to all who got in and can attend. Boston is a great city to attend college in.

Unfortunately I don’t think I will be attending because of the cost even after the scholarship :frowning:
