does nyu have any straight men or are they all gay

i heard the males at nyu are all gay. p.s. i never said if i was for/against it. so my question is is this true and are there like rare straight people there? thanks =)

Hi Sarah. As a straight guy at NYU, I assure you that there are other straight guys at NYU (I mean, almost every single guy on my sports team here is straight). Regardless, I don’t meant to sound like a jerk, but it kind of bothers me that other NYU girls claim that there are no straight guys at nyu, when nice, straight, and pretty okay looking straight guys ask them out and they simply reject them.

The truth of the matter is that there are plenty of gay guys, but the school’s population is so large that you will also find plenty of straight guys.

Sorry for the rant!

Yep. At a school with like 8,000 undergrad males, every single one of them is gay.

i cringe at questions like this.

it’s okay for the rant lol. also do u think i have a good chance of getting into nyu based on things ive done so far in high school? : I have ap us history and ap english next year ( and senior year i will have ap government and ap english again) i volunteered at a nursing home and the hospital(28 hours in the hospital and 150 hours in the nursing home), my cumulative average is 83 ( for sophmore year), and i help the principal’s secretary, and need- based for financial aid.

@Dreamer - Obviously, for those who didn’t know. On the application they have a check box if you’re gay or not. IF you check not, you automatically get rejected, even if you have perfect stats!

These sorts of questions drive me up the wall.

Sarah, there is no magical formula for getting into NYU. As long as you’ve taken four years of just about everything (language, science, history, english) and done well in it, are somewhere in the standardized testing range (for the given school within NYU for which you’re applying), and have extra-curriculars, you should be fine. They do take note of how competitive your high school was - if it’s a generally easier school, then you might want to try to bring up your GPA for Junior and Senior year. College admissions prefer to see an upward GPA trend for their applicants. Believe it or not, I took those exact same AP’s as you will be taking. Note, NYU does not give placing out advantage for writing - i.e. the AP english can’t help you too much since all freshman are required to take Writing the Essay - or if you’re going to be in Stern - Commerce and Culture (Assuming you have a 750+ writing SAT II ) or in Tisch, Art and the world (Tisch and Steinhardt have to take two semesters of writing their first year).

Additionally, I cannot place enough emphasis on the ESSAYS that you will have to write - for the common application, and also the NYU supplement. They have to be well-written, thought provoking, and different. Saying, " I want to go to NYU because it’s in the greatest city in the world" is a sure fire way to get put into the rejection pile (now, take that with a grain of salt, it’s not a be all end all if you have amazing stats, but to augment your application and give you a better chance to be admitted, I’d highly recommend focusing on the essays (on top of everything else).

One thing you should note is, that the financial aid is not stellar at NYU (to say the least). You can get scholarships from NYU (like a CAS scholarship for 8,000 or something to that effect). Again, if you want more information on this, there’s a thread right at the top of this front page on the NYU forum on CC with Financial Aid information (If I’m not mistaken).

Again, schools like Stern and Tisch are most competitive. Stern placing emphasis on quantitative scores and Tisch placing emphasis on your artistic portfolio and creativity.

Sorry to be short with you on the matter.

NYU has thousands of male students. I’m pretty sure they are not all gay.

were u being sarcastic when nyu rejects people who dont check gay on their application?

No sarcasm, the girls are all gay too unless they lie on the check box.

hahaha the responses to this thread are amazing

If every male at NYU were gay, screw heaven, I’m staying at NYU.

There are plenty of males who are not gay; there are plenty of women who are not lesbians.

NYU is, however, one of the most LGBT(TQQIAAAAPPP) friendly schools in the country. As such, NYU has a large LGB community.

It’s okay. Once I arrive there will be at least one straight guy on campus. I’m not single however. ;)

If you are looking for straights just go to some Asian school organizations or clubs. Our parents will beat us to death if we become gay ;)

I apologize Sarah. You have to understand, NYU as a whole contains students who are witty, heavily sarcastic, and the sort - a lot of what I say has a bunch of dry humor. Not everyone gets it, I suppose it’s harder to understand online.

haha it’s okay i eventually got it ^.^

Good luck with the college application process, hope everything works out

Most Sternies are straight.

Playing the field in NYC is one of the greatest things ever. If you’re in a relationship, get out before you get here because it’s like playing musical chairs with all the chicks here.
