Hi, I am a Canadian student thinking of applying to NYU. does NYU provide financial aid to Canadian students?
Thank you

I would assume so. I know some Canadians going to NYU, and I'm sure they got fin aid (most everyone at NYU needs some sort of finaid). Plus other international students usually recieve finaid.

I don't have a definite answer, but since no one has replied I'd figure I'd give you some sort of assurance.

thank you lindseygs.
I read the international student part of the NYU website, but it says no aid are given to international students. So i am not sure if Canadians are categorized as international students. Also, i can't believe that an international student has to pay up to $50000 a year for NYU.

Yes, Canadians are considered international students and no, they do not get any need-based aid from NYU. Not only do they not get any aid, but they also have to prove through tax returns and notarized bank statements that they have sufficient funds to pay for their education. Otherwise, they do not get their student visa.

It doesn't necessarily mean that, t1n. Aid can be given in a number of ways, particularly in the form of scholarships. If you can prove to be a strong applicant, you should not have much trouble procuring these funds, and the cost of your NYU education would considerably be reduced.

*by aid I was including scholarships, like goyoungha said, because (like i previously said) I know some foreign students who recieved $$ from NYU, so it was probably in the form of scholarships

also consider the exchange rate...it will probably be more than 50,000+ (but you should probably check on that) by four or five thousand...unless they cut you a break by letting you pay 50,000 canadian, but i seriously doubt it b/c that would only be about 45 or 46 thousand american

Yes, there are a few scholarships available for international students but you can't really count on those. And no, they do not allow you to pay in Canadian dollars! I wish they did! :)

I DIDNT GET ANY need-based aid, and I'm from jersey so what's the problem? If you get scholarships it's good....federal loans and private loans are the same thing...tomato-tomato thing....same difference

loans are different for international students...and canadians tend to have to pay a lot more for everything, regardless

if you don't have any info to help someone, please don't post something could be taken the wrong way. no one asked who in the states got what...we are talking about international aid

thanks guys. but how much is the scholarship. is it offered every year? and i heard about stern scholar, what is that?

stern scholar titles are given to a select few of the elite Stern students, from what i've heard the typical scholarships are about $15-20k for Scholars. It could be more..... I myself, not a Stern scholar, received $10k. So you get a decent amount depending on your credentials. i'm sure he/she can secure loans....NOBODY WINS WITH LOANS....except the banks....

I don't think that NYU offers financial aid to Canadians because they are international students. Yes, some students do pay the full $50k to come here - I know a Korean girl whose family coughs it up every year so she can attend NYU. I'm not a financial aid counselor, but if I were you, I'd expect to have to pay full price.

Actually, the best thing to do would be to call the Financial Aid Office and ask about their Canadian policies.

wait wait...

does nyu offer financial aid to US citizens?

yes (10char)
