Up until this last semester, I have had a 4.0 uw GPA. This semester, however, I took 7 APs, and got an A- in AP Physics B and B+ in AP Calc AB. Will this destroy my chances of admission to Brown or other great schools?

Not really, it shows that you are challenging yourself so it might not be a bad thing. I hope A-'s on your transcript is not a bad thing or else I’d be screwed.

It’s obviously a downward trend; 4.0>3.982.
None of us can tell you if it will “destroy” your chances, though. If you’re a senior, talk to your counselor about it and make sure she knows everything she should to be able to justify your lower grades in your mid-year report. If you’re not, try not to get another A- or B until second semester senior year.

Agreed, chill and be proud of your achievements. this will not hurt your chances (i’m not flipping out, and i got a B in AP French first semester senior year) lol

If you get accepted it won’t be because your “downward” trend was overlooked. If you get rejected, it won’t be because your “downward” trend was considered.

Trust me, you’re fine. My friend got into Dartmouth and she was telling me how she got accepted with A-s. Your UW GPA is almost flawless anyway, and I’ve been told “it looks better to have a B in an honors class than an A in a regular class,” so it’s good you’re challenging yourself.

Chelsea: Your transcript doesn’t need to be all As. Just “mostly As” in a very rigorous schedule. I got Bs in Chemistry honors and still applied to Ivies and top engineering schools as an intended Chemistry major! Got into all of them.
