To major in engineering do i had to be accepted to the engineering college?

I applied with applied mathematics major and i am currently also thinking about engineering.
I don't know exactly what I want to major in, yet.
So I just want to keep myself some options.

I know JHU has Art&Science college and engineering college.
Are they interchangeable???

i'm confused...
am i supposed to be accepted to a certain school to major in certain area?
I reread the acceptance letter but it only said i'm accepted to JHU, so i could not conform myself.

For all practical purposes, there is little separation between the Schools of Engineering and of Arts and Sciences when it comes to academics/majors/courses etc.

The major you put on your reply form is what the University cares about - you can put anything on this card and it doesnt have to be what you had on your application*. If you’re an engineering student, then you’ll get a faculty advisor from your chosen department when you arrive in the fall, in addition to the advising you receive from the Engineering Advising office. If you choose an Arts and Sciences major, you are officially considered pre-major and are assigned an advisor from the Office of Academic Advising. Once you declare a major (no rush, up till sophomore year), then you’re assigned a faculty advisor.

In terms of changing majors, all you have to do is get one form from the registrar’s office and have it signed by your advisor from your old major and an advisor from your new major (you go see the Director of Undergrad Studies for the department and they assign you an advisor)

*The exception to this is Biomedical Engineering, which you have to apply to as an incoming freshman. Some years, the BME department allows transfers in after freshman year, but it’s never guaranteed that the option will be available
