i was just wondering..how hard is it to switch majors in JHU?
say that i get accepted as a humanities major..is possible to switch to a social science or natural sci if i happen to change my mind??

You don't get accepted as an X major. everyone comes in pre-major, and you don't declare until the end of your freshman or by the end of your sophomore year. What you put on your application is merely interest based, and nothing else. Once you have declared a major, switching is very easy--just get a form and fill it out and have it signed.

But if you put, say History down on your application and the first semester of your freshman year you decide you love Biology, you do not do anything, because you have not yet declared a major.

You would wait until you have your declaration of major meeting with your advisor and you'd declare in biology, and you'd schedule the appropriate classes. Then, say in your sophomore year you decide you really didn't love biology, but did love History. Well, you get the change of major form, go to your advisor in the Bio dept and your new advisor in the History Dept and then to the registrar.

But, when you set foot on campus your first day, you are not affiliated with any department (unless, of course, You're BME). This is a common misconception propagated by the major selection form on the application. This form does nothing other than gauge interest and does not affect admissions, unless, as I've said, it's BME.

^ oh whew. thanks so much =)
wait im guessing its like this for most colleges? or is it just jhu?

At least from what I remember when I applie, most private colleges do it this way - most public schools have you apply directly to specific majors. At Hopkins, all Arts and Sciences students come in as 'pre-majors' and have two years to declare a major. All Engineers come in affiliated with a department, but that's only really for administrative purposes so that you can be assigned a faculty advisor, be put on the right mailing lists etc. Like coolguyusa said, its really easy to switch majors within either school or between schools even as late as your junior year
