My kids attended pre-college of MSM since 7 grade, she is a junior this coming school year. She is thinking to drop off from MSM pre college, as she think that the program will not benefit her for her college admissions, and she can save her time to focus on her juior year. Any opinions?
Not really, unless you are going into a related field. My kids studied since age 4 to high school classical piano and added some other instruments. They studied at a university program. Since they did not go into the arts field at all, it was of no help. What got them into good school was the SAT scores and good GPA as well as science related activities.
I disagree with the above poster. Commitment to music is an excellent EC that is highly regarded by colleges, regardless of intended major. MSM pre-college is competitive and being a member of the program shows her skill level. ECs should not be focused on getting into a top college, but rather what the student wants. Academic ECs are not necessary or required.
Thank you for your reply. I’m trying to get more inputs to convince my kid to continue her last 2 years MSM journey .
How about let the kid do what the kid wants.
I agree with @researchperson . If your D wants to stop this activity and focus on her school work, then she should be allowed to do that. Maybe she isn’t enjoying it anymore. The main reason for activities should be because she interested in something and she enjoys it, not to build a resume.
I would pose this question to someone involved in the program your D is involved in. It could be that if a student trained by the school that she/he might have the background etc. that the school is looking for. I just don’t know.
Thank you.
Do you have any feedback?
