I know that most competitive colleges require 4 years of foreign language. I am now a junior taking Spanish 4 Honors, so the colleges that will see my transcript will know that I've taken 4 years of language since 8th grade. However, does Spanish 1 taken in 8th grade count as part of the 4 years that colleges want? Btw, the class does not physically show up on my high school transcript.

For most schools, it’s the level reached, not the # of years showing on your HS transcript, so Spanish 4 would be 4 yrs of a FL.

However, I believe there are some exceptions, so it’s always best to look at the college websites and send an email if you need further clarification.

Span 4 = four years, assuming the next course in the sequence is AP Span (which is Span V).

Not to worry, since many students take a lang and/or math in middle school.
