Does Spanish affect my GPA?

I’m in 8th grade and I was wondering if a Language counts in your GPA? I have straight A’s except for Spanish. Spanish is a C. Yes, I know that’s bad but they put me in Native speakers just because my parents speak Spanish, not me. Without Spanish I have a 3.9 UW GPA, 4.22 W GPA. And with Spanish I have about a 3.5 UW GPA. So, does a world language affect your GPA?

yes

Are you asking because you are applying to private schools for highschool or for your college transcript? 8th grade grades are not reported to colleges are they?

@one1ofeach No. 8th grade grades are not reported to colleges, but I am applying to a private highschool.

ok, then yes, that grade will be seen on your transcript and considered by the private schools. Most private schools aren’t just looking at your GPA, they are looking at your actual grades when reviewing your transcript.

In our school district, 8th graders can take Spanish 1, a high school class/credit, and it does get counted towards their GPA. That’s what my son did, Spanish 1 in 8th grade and Spanish 2 in 9th grade.

Just ask your counselor what your school’s policy is.

If OP is applying to private highschools they will see the grade and it will “count” to them. OP isn’t wondering about the grade being counted on highschool transcript.

If the class counts as a high school credit to satisfy graduation requirements and goes on your transcript, then it will be seen by any college you’re applying to, public or private, would it not?

I don’t think that grades from 8th grade transfer to a private highschool, even if they are counted by the public school as a highschool class. Most private highschools don’t accept public school courses to fulfill any requirement.

It would.

But OP isn’t applying to any college, public or private. OP is applying to a private high school.

Nor is OP asking if grades would transfer to another high school.

Yes, private HS will look at your grades but I don’t think one C will be the end of the world. Are you taking the ISEE? That’s also important. In our case, letters of recommendation from middle school, ISEE and grades were reviewed. Does the HS that you will be applying to has a good relationship with your middle school? I would highly encourage you to get the right language placement in HS.

Spanish or any language is considered a core course so if a middle school has a gpa I would think it is included and seen when applying to a high school. I doubt grades are all they look at nor are they expecting straight As. It is possible it will be used for language placement for 9th grade.
