So its already May and I still want to take the SAT one last time to raise it up to 2300+ (even 2350+) before I apply for college. I'm looking at top colleges, and my gpa is pretty decent and my extracurriculars consist of national and state awards and many leadership positions. I was planning to take my 4 APs next week, Math Level 2 and Physics SAT 2 June, then SATs for the last time in October right before EA/ED. Although I heard from some people that taking the SAT October is ok, some other people told me that taking the October SAT in senior year can look bad and hurt me in the application process. Since I'll get scores before ED/EA deadline, will it matter taking them October? If October is not fine, Ill just switch the SAT and SAT 2's, taking the SAT June and SAT 2's October (but I feel like I'll be able to do much better in October because I'll be able to study). Can someone tell me if taking it in October during senior year ok for people applying to top notch Ivy Leagues?

In fact, I haven't seen anyone take the October SAT in senior year and use that score to get into an Ivy League yet. So please convince me otherwise :/

It’s fine if you take it again in October (I actually took the November one for my Caltech/MIT applications…they’re not Ivies but w/e). Just make sure your score goes up. A drop between June and October SAT’s weakens the application a bit…

Hopefullygood777, there is absolutely no problem with retaking SATs in the fall of your senior year - especially if this will be your second (not third) time taking the test. In addition, taking SAT Subject tests in June is generally a good idea if you have just taken the subjects themselves in school (the material will be fresh in your head).

One notable exception (not an ivy, but many ivy applicants do look at it) is Georgetown. Students applying EA to Georgetown need to complete their testing in junior year.

From Georgetown’s website: “SAT or ACT scores should be from the junior year. Scores from SAT Subject Tests should be included if available. Please note that the Early Action review is based on information from freshman, sophomore and junior years…”

Oh, and if you’re looking at tippy top ivies, please make sure that you do interesting things over the summer (besides just prepping for that October test!).
