Does the essay need to be about you?

For instance, im thinking about writing about social business and about "how yogurt can save bangladesh" but it doesnt really have anything to do with me, other than my interest. Is this bad, or do i need to write about something more about me

I see it as a topic that has great potential…

It should be about “you” but you can convey yourself through a variety of different means. For instance, if your topic is humorous, it can reflect on how you have a sense of humor.

can anyone else comment on this?

An essay is written in response to a prompt of some kind, even if the prompt says, “Write a personal statement.” In this case, the key word is “personal.” Remember that this is not a term paper, but a way to give an insight into YOU.

Yes, it should be about YOU. The purpose of the essay is to show the counselors something about YOU that they wouldn’t know from your paper credentials. It’s similar to a personal introduction - if you were speed-dating with this school, what is it that you want them to know about you so that they’ll ask you for a date?
