SDSU is my top college choice for next year when I apply; does the major I pick affect whether I go to the school? I know SDSU is very impacted in all majors but which are the least impacted? I’ve wanted to major In informatics, health sciences maybe, nursing science, and kinesiology. I feel like most of what I want to do is impacted, tho.
Every major is impacted meaning more applicants than spots available. If you want to get an idea of acceptance rates for each major, I will send you a link of the # of applicant and # admitted students for each major and you can calculate last year’s acceptance rate. Nursing will have the lowest with around 5% since it is a direct admit program. Majority of the majors have around a 30-35% acceptance rate and the # of applicants for certain majors can number in the thousands (Biology/Psychology) so much more competition. Even if you apply to an easier admit major, switching majors later on may prove to be difficult. I would always try to apply to the major you feel is the best for you, regardless of your chances. Where you go for undergrad will not define you. What defines you is what you do with the opportunities you are given.
@jasewmine someone posted this in 2016 SDSU decisions thread:
https://asir.sdsu.edu/Pages/applications-by-major.aspx
It’s a dataset from 2015 admissions. You can see here how many applications were received for each major and how many students were admitted. It seems like Economics and some art majors (Graphic design, for example) have the highest acceptance rates. Most majors vary from high 30-35% to low 10 - 8%
