Does this ever happen?

Do you guys know anybody who got into brown with a 3.7-3.8 GPA or is that well below the cut - off?

One of the students from our school got in with a 1800 SAT and GPA well below 3.7, a 2012er, but she was heavily involved in ECs, even national NGOs.
Hope this relieves you a bit :)

There is no “GPA cut off.” Your grades are looked at in context with your high school – at some high schools, a 3.7-3.8 GPA is at the top of the class. If your high school ranks, then your rank is as important as your GPA.

fireandrain is correct. There have been several people who have gotten in with GPAs below 3.5. Some schools are just more rigorous.
