Hmm...could this email thing be the equivalent of Scholar's Day invite but for Norcal people? Because how can they really expect people from norcal to go all the way down to socal for it? Did anyone from norcal get the scholar's day thing?

babyblue: so they all got the email but none got scholars invites?

I didn't ask them if they were 'scholar invites'. I only asked them if they got an e-mail inviting them to a reception at Milpitas.

The people that got the email are only from the bay, and are probably accepted (google ucsd+reception)

can someone post the RSVP website address please?

From the link provided:

"This event will be one of the deciding factors in determining if some of the brightest students in the Bay Area will attend UCSD."

From the e-mail:

"University of
California, San Diego acknowledges you as an exceptional freshman applicant for Fall Quarter 2007"

^So I guess it does mean that you are accepted...

A got a letter from UCSB similar to this one, and it said that this invitation does NOT affect or indicate admissions status, but when we went, they told us we were all admitted...

This UCSD thing might be similar.

The e-mail does not really specify whether or not it affects one's admission status, but the words they choose make it seem like the applicant is accepted.

I didn't get an email and I live i the Bay Area...

4.2 UC GPA (or higher depending on which Community College classes they count)
2210 SAT
760, 720 SAT II's

no scholars day either...what's wrong with me?!

^UCSD has a weird system; I really don't know how it works. :/

hmm, from the website that piggie provided:

"College acceptance letters have been sent to high school seniors and many are currently deciding between UCSD, Stanford, MIT, Cal and other top schools in the country. This event will be one of the deciding factors in determining if some of the brightest students in the Bay Area will attend UCSD. Students and parents want to hear from UCSD alumni and why they should choose UCSD. We need your help to ensure that UCSD consistently attracts the best and brightest students."

sounds to me like they sent it only to the highest admitted students

the reason a lot of people with seemingly low scores got it is probably because they made up for it by other factors in UCSD's point system...cuz really, first generation college student has to only get a 3.7 to get the same points as a 4.0 student, considering only those two factors.

but it specifically says "some of the brightest students in the Bay Area" implying that more than those who got the letter from the bay area got accepted

now, april 7th there is the same reception for the Los Angeles area, and april 11th is the reception for people in san diego, so socal people should be getting their email soon...

unfortunately, i didn't get an email (i'm from the bay area), but i still have hope.

That's a good point. I forgot about their point system.

Yeah, I agree with you cr_brook. I received the email and my test scores are horrible (i am a really bad test taker, especially in stressful situations), but I have a high GPA, good ECs, first generation college student, and a minority. What I think help me the most was being in ELC.

Yah, because you get extra points if you are an ELC applicant. :)

i doubt i got in, but not getting the letter seems to put salt on the wound. -_-

are they from the bay area?

hopefully they are! for our sakes :(

hey my stats are very high for ucsd standards, and I didnt get one.

Like I said,

Colleges tend to waitlist, defer, and deny students who are way above their median scores, because they figure you applied to UC Berkeley, UCLA, and Stanford as well as other top 10 schools and Ivy leagues.
